Cool Videos: Batman Beyond animated short from Darwyn Cooke!

04.21.2014

Yet another Batman animated short has popped online, this time featuring the caped crusader in his futuristic form in Batman Beyond. Based on the three-season series that had an aging Bruce Wayne mentoring a young Batman named Terry McGinnis in a high-tech suit, this new short is part of Batman's 75th Anniversary celebration and is a great compliment to the already released short from Bruce Timm. Featuring the original voices from the animated series, Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne and Will Friedle as Terry McGinnis/Batman, the short pits the two Batmen against a very familiar-looking foe and is a terrific ode to yet another great Batman animated series that's been laid to rest. If anything, these new shorts are making my itch to see a new series that can match the style, heart, and creative energy of these old shows.

Enjoy:

Extra Tidbit: Man, how awesome would it be if they got the old gang back together for a new Batman animated series? I'd so be there.

ok

This is still better than the entire pretty bad Batman Beyond show but it's actually just a minute of fighting that are only saved by the awesome ending. It's ok, I guess, but I would have thought that a 75-year anniversary would make something more exciting.

Darwyn Cooke managed to make Adam West Batman look almost scary! Loved hearing Conroy as Old Bruce again. The Batman Beyond concept was one that could have very easily been ruined by executive meddling but that Timm, Dini, Burnett, Murakami and all involved managed to make into something very cool and still respectful of the original animated series.

If that is not the most awesomest (I know that's not a word but here it's fitting) I've seen all year...

I don't know what is.

Extra Tidbit

I would LOVE another Batman: The Animate Series. There is so much potential to cover parts of Batman's story that hasn't been done in the movies yet, and we'd get to see more villains. Instead, we're getting the Gotham tv show and Batman vs. Superman movie, which might still be good but not really how I'd like to see the story of the character portrayed.

Batman meets Blade Runner

Would be cool with a live action Batman trilogy in Nolan's style set in a dark not so far away future, with some DeusEx/Cyberpunk stuff.

Awesome!

This is awesome and keep posting these awesome Batman 75th videos! But Paul I think you meant Bruce Timm and not Paul Dini did the last short released!

Ah yes, you're correct. It was Timm that did the last short. Thanks for the correction.

Oh, how I miss it so...

Extra Tidbit:
I think, based on the response the first short got and that this one will, it might not be so out of the question that the old guard might return and resurrect Batman, or even Justice League. Some of the best writing, most poignant moments, biggest laughs and pure enjoyment I have ever received while watching ANYTHING came from those shows. I have enjoyed the subsequent Batman shows (except Beware The Batman...that was just pure shite) but nothing comes close to the original

The demand is (and frankly always has been) there, time for WB to step up

Miss those great afternoon series. To paraphrase Joni Mitchell, you don't know what you've got until it's gone. Taking The Simpsons for granted, too, but will also miss it whenever it does go off the air.
