Cool Videos: Carrie Telekinetic Coffee Shop Prank

Oct. 7, 2013by:

So say you go into Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts to grab your necessary cup of coffee then suddenly two patrons start to argue. Eh, no big deal until one of them displays telekinetic abilities. How do you react? Do you scream, look on in horror, or immediately break out your cell phone to record this bizarre moment for YouTube?

The marketing team behind the upcoming remake of CARRIE starring Chloe Grace Moretz, has come up with a clever viral video set-up to get the word out there. A set was built and actors were hired to fool customers that came into the coffee shop. The result is kind of hilarious.

Check out there reactions:

This one could've been filmed and edited a bit more comprehensively but I'm digging these types viral videos. Especially when they're in lieu of overly spoilery trailers.

That's an awesome prank, but whoever edited it should be fired. Great prank ruined by terrible editing.

Have to agree with Bob Loblaw about the editing. With that said, it is a great prank. I think all genre films should think outside the box when advertising. Another great one of the chat-roullette prank that they did for The Last Exorcism.

LoL... that was pretty hilarious. I like the one girl that let out a chipmunk scream but continued filming with her camera.

That's pretty creative. I'd freak out. Best part was the dog's reaction at 1:11. "Whu..."

I think the guy flying up the wall would catch me off guard...

but that's expected because that shit came out of nowhere. As for the rest, I think I would just go back to ordering my coffee. Would have been a lot better without the scream at the end, because at that point I'm pretty sure everyone was wise to the joke. Still, it's not a bad video because some people were still spooked at the end. Especially that black chick lol

Why would the construction guy bring a pipe inside the shop?
Also hope Carrie isn't this corny.

Oh, how we mock and dismiss...with our cynical specs on...too cool to think we'd be caught out by corny sh*t like this. I'd love to experience being truly caught off guard...and see whether Id be so cynical about pranks of this nature.

Dude, seriously, we're living in an age of trickery on film (cgi) and deception in real life. This all comes down to core beliefs. Those that are caught off guard and continue to be scared through out the video are the people that actually believe telekinesis and ESP exist. If, in your subconscious you believe in NONE of that, then you're going to subconsciously try to explain with a rational mind what is happening in front of you. You're going to see the vertical line in the wall behind

You're going to see the vertical line in the wall behind the guy that was lifted in the air, your going to remember all those ads you've been seeing for the movie Carrie, you're going to put two and two together. And even if you haven't seen the movie ads, you're going to have a rational mind if you don't believe shit like that is possible. "Cynical specs?" I think not. It's called a rational mind.
