Ah, Disney, you classy bastards. I thought SONG OF THE SOUTH was your only skeleton, but lo and behold this gem of a cartoon from the 1940s. A co-production between Disney and Kotex, this short is called "The Story of Menstruation" and gives new meaning to the term "edutainment."

Guys, did you know that this may be the first film in history to include the word vagina? Shocking!

It is always cool to see the history of a huge studio, even if it is about period blood. Remember folks, this is the same studio that will be bringing STAR WARS: EPISODE VII to the big screen!

I may not be a doctor (I do play one on TV), but this video still seems pretty accurate. i guess human evolution is a myth.

Extra Tidbit: Didn't Disney remake this as CRIMSON TIDE?

Hey where's my booklet? I didn't get one! How am I supposed to do my exercises? LOL! This must have been one of those school videos where they seperated the boys from the girls. I would have loved to have seen Walt Disney in the board room when they explained the idea for this video to him. LOL! I bet he was red faced. :)

not surprising

Most of the films Disney made were actually education films. Ones being show in schools all over the country. Almost half of the films Walt Disney was nominated for at the Oscars were short documentaries. Most studios in the time created films like these to compete with each other just like feature films.

And i have a copy of Song of the South and while i agree the style is a little "dated" i dont really think any of it was deliberately racist.
