Cool Videos: Everything wrong with Captain America: The First Avenger

Apr. 1, 2014by:

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is shaping up to be the single best Marvel movie to date, but that is not saying much as there have been several mediocre films leading up to this point. But, as far as the various franchises go, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER may have been the strongest debut for any film in the Cinematic Universe to date. But, that does not make it immune to nitpicking.

Cinema Sins latest entry in their "Everything Wrong With" series picks on CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER for being, well, the first AVENGERS movie. You can criticize the movie and say that it exists purely to set up Joss Whedon's super-team blockbuster, but the movie is also an incredibly enjoyable retro action movie. It could also be looked at as one of the few purely entertaining movies from Marvel Studios.

Either way you fall on CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, you will probably get a kick out of some of these nitpicks. For everyone else, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER hits screens this Friday.

Is it me or are these videos becoming increasingly more bias through irrational "wrong" points?
I dont disagree that this movie is mediocre, although I will be seeing Cap 2 this weekend, but some of those points are just...stupid reasons. I mean, you can attack ANY movie and give it over 100 sins. Even the best movie, if you nitpick. Take the grenade scene they made fun of. Sure it made me smirk, but it's not the "soldiers were smart to run away" it was the metaphor that this skinny, tiny,

Sure it made me smirk, but it's not the "soldiers were smart to run away" it was the metaphor that this skinny, tiny, less than average man was willing to sacrifice his life to save others. Stupid, sure, but it was about his character to choose him for the serum. Could have been written different, I agree, but being a Marvel movie, metaphor does mean something because the reality of that world is fake.
As for the Cliche gripe, every movie does it. It's hardly "wrong" anymore, it's pretty much standard.
I still find these video's somewhat entertaining, but the last few I have watched have been...nitpicky.
If I was gonna nitpick, I could take apart The Dark Knight, as much as I enjoyed the film, the flaws, it has MANY. To nitpick for the sake of it though, that's just dumb

I think that's the point. None of this is meant to be taken seriously.

One great thing about these videos is always reading the butthurt fanboy reactions, and it never fails. Anyways Captain America was probably my fav solo film out of phase one. I'm so pumped for the new one!!! Cant wait.

I hate these videos. Each one is unfunier than the previous one.

Captain America: First Avenger is easily the second best solo Avenger film of Phase One. Infact, I would say it's inches behind Iron Man for being the best solo Avenger film. I just love how the film is unlike any comic book film we have seen before and how they totally perfected the character and time setting with an awesome origins story with lots of heart.

I find them entertaining but very hit and miss. Some of them are very funny, while others barely make me smile. The key is to not take them seriously, especially with movies you like. I doubt CinemaSins actually dislikes most of the movies they criticize. However, sometimes the points they make actually are valid, which is especially obvious with bad movies, like Green Lantern for example. If you love films like that, you probably don't want to see them picked apart. Unless, of course,

But this is not the first time I strongly disagreed with you.

Then why do they consider a DC comic title a sin at the beginning of any DC film? (see Nolan's Batman, Man of Steel, Green Lantern)

Cliches aren't exactly wrong, now are they?

This guy really should stop making these. He's lost focus...entirely.

AGREED

I agree 100% with the video. An VERY cheesy and mediocre film. Excessive amounts of BAD green screen and CGI, terrible plot, and just all around sloppy directing. I'm excited for the sequel but the last half of The First Avenger was just painful to watch.

Great, underrated movie!

Didn't watch this video yet, but hopefully people won't go crazy over it and realize these youtube parody videos are mostly tongue-in-cheek and ridiculously nitpicky for the sake of nitpicking. It's all in jest.

Having said that, I always felt The First Avenger was one of the stronger solo films in Phase One. Iron Man is definitely the best, with Captain America a close second. It's retro, it's pulpy, it's simply good, entertaining fun. I love the unabashedly patriotic, intentionally cheesy

I love the unabashedly patriotic, intentionally cheesy tone, I love how they absolutely nailed the character of Steve Rogers, I love the romance between him and Peggy. They dropped the ball on plenty of things (the Howling Commandos, Bucky, the contrived and ridiculously forced way they made Steve crash the plane in the ice at the end) but it really holds up well.

General rule for a comic book movie, one must turn on suspension of disbelief. Super heroes do NOT make sense, and if he got shot by a disintegration ray then you wouldn't have much of a movie anyway.
