Cool Videos: Everything wrong with The Dark Knight Rises in under 4 minutes

Dec. 26, 2012by: Alex Maidy

So far, the guys at CinemaSins have given us funny looks at the problems that pervade THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and THE AVENGERS. Not to waste any time, they are already back with a look at one of the most error-plagued movies of 2012, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES was my favorite superhero movie of the year despite the clear flaws in storytelling. It is by no means as good as either of Christopher Nolan's other Batman films, but it was still an enjoyable movie.

There is nothing wrong with nitpicking movies for logical flaws or things we just dislike about them, but THE DARK KNIGHT RISES was full of actual errors that didn't add up. I mean, I still fail to understand how the nuclear bomb ending actually worked.

So, take a look and see if you agree with the 70+ errors in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

If you find a cool movie-related video online that you think other readers would appreciate, please email us the link/info at coolvideos@joblo.com.

Extra Tidbit: I think we need PROMETHEUS next.

I realize that a lot of these are subjective but some of them, are just plain wrong; like When Miranda Tate "helped" them find the bomb. She didn't help at all, she threw the tracker onto the wrong truck intentionally to throw them off. Also, Bane explains why he's keeping the police alive; so they see their city burn. Finally, Blake knows where to find Gordon because he found that kid who washed up from the sewers. I swear, the definition of plot holes is turning into, "I'm lazy and I want

You sir, have restored my faith that intelligent life exists on the internet. People don't want to think anymore but instead be spoon fed plots and themes. Apparently it is still not cool to be able to think for oneself.

Jesus, I don't think you could be more wrong! Mind you, I have seen the movie once, so a little hazy on a few things but- A) what kid that washed up from the sewers? B) But why did Gotham send down almost all of their police department? That would leave virtually no one around in case of someone reporting a crime (theft, murder, assault, hit and run, what have you)- so therefore, it's an actual plot hole. C) Another actual plot hole how did Bane know about the secret R&D room? Merinda Tate

C) Another actual plot hole how did Bane know about the secret R&D room? Merinda Tate never saw, so she couldn't have told him. Also, we are told only Wayne & Fox know about it, so WTF? This isn't the complaints of some idiot that needs everything spoonfed, but when you spent two other films establishing a (mostly) realistic world, and then largely ignore that in the third, you have fucked up. D) My last one, it is a two parter- if Ras Al Ghoul's original plan was based on how awful Gotham was, but it has since (very clearly) cleaned itself up, why does the plan still need to be enacted? Also, if Miranda Tate hated her dad for throwing her one true love out of the League of Shadows, why in the bloody hell would she give two shits about trying to finish her dad's work? There are several more plot holes (actually plot holes, as in if thought about with logic and reasoning, especially in a film series that has strived to be very realistic, things don't add up in any fashion (which is super different than being asked to have everything spelled out for you)), but you probably don't give a damn, or won't be able to defend/ explain.

@filmguy450 Congratulations! You've won the award of least attentive person ever! First, if you were paying attention during TDKR, towards the beginning of the film, John Blake shows up at the sewer outflow where the police have found a boy. When he goes to the boys home where the kid lived, the boy's brother tells Blake about there being "work" down in the sewers. So when Gordon disappears in the sewer, he had an idea of where he might turn up. Second, if you watched the video this ENTIRE

So when Gordon disappears in the sewer, he had an idea of where he might turn up. Second, if you watched the video this ENTIRE ARTICLE IS ABOUT, you'd know that when I was talking about the police officers I was responding to the "plot hole" of Bane keeping them alive. I never commented on why the Police were down there in the first place, I don't know everything. Thirdly, I made no mention of the R&D debacle, so I'm not quite sure why you were using it to attacking me. I never said the film didn't have holes. I was clearing up some of the claims made by the aforementioned video. Lastly, again, I never made any comment on why Miranda Tate was doing what she did, simply what she actually did. Also, you said "my last one, it is a two parter," then mentioned one thing. I'll leave you with this....what?

Actually it's everything wrong with TDKR in under THREE minutes....

Nah but seriously, this was pretty funny. If people still don't understand that these videos aren't COMPLETELY serious, then my faith in humanity is fading fast. If anything, maybe these videos will let people realize they don't have to gets so defensive about their favorite movies. Spider-man, the Avengers, TDKR, they ALL had some pretty big mistakes, NONE of them are flawless, but that's not going to ruin my enjoyment of any of them. Remember, there's no such thing as a perfect movie.

For anyone getting pissed off at these videos, they're clearly having fun with the movies. Some of the "sins" are silly nitpicks played for laughs.

Also LOL at: "Liam Neeson isn't killing anyone in this scene." *DING*

Wow, this video actually has actually multiple mistakes, rather than just movie clichs like turning a reactor in a bomb in two minutes. That makes this video better than the Spider-man and Avengers one. However I still don't think these CinemaSins vids are that funny, unlike HISHE or Honest trailers. Nipple bed is so far fetched and what's wrong with DC comics or a Galaxy Note?

The funny thing is that it's not even a Galaxy Note. It's a Dell Inspiron Duo. I owned one and it's a neat little machine.

Purely fusion reactions have little to no radiation. At least they should figure outwear they're saying before they say it.

Actually, that's not true: that's one of the criticisms that was raised when scientists anounced 20 years ago that they had discovered cold fusion, namely that fusion DOES give off radiation and that if cold fusion were to occur you would not just notice water getting warmer but also radiation being given off. I think what you meant was that fusion gives off little or no radiactive waste, seeing as how helium is not a radioactive element.

In any case, the news reporters also said that the bomb was "giving off radiation". Also, the core of a fusion reactor would make a pretty shitty bomb because you need high temperature and pressure to get the reaction to take place: that is why H bombs need an A bomb in order to cause a fusion reaction to occur.

There is one way to explain everything that happened in TDKR and that is to assume that the reactor was a Thorium reactor.

1) Thorium is radioactive.
2) Thorium can be used to make bombs but it isn't easy: you have to convert thorium to uranium first. This is not something that can be done in two minutes but the doctor DID say that he was the only one who could do it.
3) Thorium reactors are considered "experimental": India is the only country that uses Thorium reactors commercially and that is because 25% of the world's thorum is in India.
4) The process of converting Thorium into Uranium involves fusing the Thorium atoms with helium atoms so when Bruce Wayne (not a physicist) describes the reactor as a "fusion reactor" he would not be entirely wrong.

Bottom line is that if it explodes it's going to give off radiation and you don't want to be within 6 miles of it when it goes off. Presumably the helicopter was much more than 6 miles away when it blew up. Batman also presumably survived because the helicopter blew up in the air and he was already underwater.

The "nipple bed" is also seen in Batman Begins, where he found another one is another story. I thought that the "nipples" actually resembled the ends of bullet shell casings and that this was done intentionally, but who knows if Nolan is meticulous enough to make the shape of a bed be a metaphor for a tragedy.

They are more like mistakes in filming. Rather than if the movie sucks or not. Definitely doesn't deserve hell :/

These aren't "Cool Videos"

At least with those honest trailers, they have fun with it. The vast majority of these videos are about plot points that, if the creators actually thought about for two seconds, are explained in the movie, like some below me have already listed. Arm chair, Monday morning quarterbacking at its finest. And this is coming from someone who really didn't think too highly of TDKR.

This video makes me annoyed..

I agree with some of the points, but most of them are stupid. Audiences are so spoiled. They need everything spelled out for them. And I am fully aware that most of these are meant to be funny, the problem is they are not. I'll list a few:
-"Alfred tells you how the movie will end 17 minutes in".. Umm, no he doesn't. it's called "foreshadow."
-"Alfred suddenly knows everything about Bane".. So? can't you idiots just accept that he does?
-Okay, so it's a galaxy note.. SO WHAT???
-"This guy

-"This guy falls for no reason." No he doesn't. If you look closely, Catwoman hits him in the face.
-"Uses Batman voice to talk to himself." So? he's still in character you friggin nit picker
-I never thought of it as "tickling" off screen and I still don't even after hearing the commentary. Dumb.
-Why wouldn't she be surprised that Wayne is Batman?
-"Bane hit's air, Batman goes down." Um, it looked like a solid punch to me.
-"Ward shows acting range by returning kickoffs." Okay now these complaints are getting ridiculous.
-"Liam Neeson isn't killing anyone in this scene." See my above comment.
-"Would you just climb out of the f**kin pit already?" Why do I even bother commenting on these anymore
-All of the complaints about the batman symbol on fire are stupid.
-"Robin".. I love that moment.
I gave this video way more attention than it deserves.

Why...

...are we feeding the trolls? I understand they are trying to be funny but it just isn't. I watched the Spider-man and Avenger ones also with the same verdict. I've given them the benefit of the doubt here. The creators are either failing at humor or trying to stir up crap. When did it become so hip to purposefully piss people off online? Don't feed the trolls and together we can end internet aggression.
