Cool Videos: Got 12 minutes to see everything wrong with the second Hobbit?

Apr. 18, 2014by: Alex Maidy

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG may have been better than the first film in Peter Jackson's prequel trilogy to THE LORD OF THE RINGS but it still felt like a piece of a single film rather than a movie capable of standing by itself. While you can still enjoy it, something just doesn't quite feel right and yet I couldn't put my finger on it. So, maybe the Cinema Sins crew can.

Usually, the Cinema Sins team compiles a list of issues with a movie that ranges from nitpicks to continuity errors and some just plain bad decisions from the creative team. But, when you are dealing with Peter Jackson and Middle Earth, you need an epic sized list of mistakes to equal the epic running time of the movie. So, presented in just about twelve minutes, here is everything wrong with THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG. One wonders how long the clip will be for the third and final movie.

The LotR movies were fairly meh. These movies look awful in comparison.
I'll wait till they come on TV.

More like 15 minutes of nitpick bitching.

I would respect these things if they pointed out actual flaws like out of place tech in a period piece or crap like that, but what they're doing you could do to any movie ever made.

There is a big difference between a movie mistake and nitpicking shit you didn't like or understand in a film.

I still maintain that the first Hobbit movie was better and besides the dragon's look and voice, the second Hobbit is the worst of any Middle Earth film (including the cartoons from the 70s)

More than a decade later, and these guys still don't understand the role of the eagles in the Tolkien universe. Is there no Google where they live? http://bit.ly/QtSBIC

Cue the flood of comments from people who can't tell parody videos apart from the videos that raging nerd fanboys put together that nitpick every little thing under the sun. CinemaSins and How It Should Have Ended are in the former category...parody videos. It's utterly amazing how many people don't get that and then get personally offended by these. If you watch this with the mindset that they're actually sarcastically making fun of people who descend to these depths of nitpicking (which, you

If you watch this with the mindset that they're actually sarcastically making fun of people who descend to these depths of nitpicking (which, you know, is exactly what these videos are doing), then it is hilarious. These videos even point out some absurdly obvious flaws as well! Too bad so many people miss out on that because they feel compelled to defend every movie to the death.

Here's exactly what was wrong with it...nit picky people went and saw it. It was great fun. These videos are the worst. If they find so much wrong with all these movies why don't they go out and make a perfect movie. Oh yeah...they can't.

Ah, the ol' "If YOU can't make a better movie yourself, then you have no right to criticize it either!" argument. Do you realize how flawed that "logic" is?

Using your logic that NO ONE can criticize a movie if we aren't able to make a better one ourselves, then what right do we have to even PRAISE a movie? You're basically saying that the only people who are allowed to criticize movies are those who've made ones themselves...well you have to apply that logic ALL the way around, so

You're basically saying that the only people who are allowed to criticize movies are those who've made ones themselves...well you have to apply that logic ALL the way around, so apparently we can't compliment movies either, unless we've made ones ourselves. I guess that puts all those professional movie critics out of a job, right? And I guess us fans can't even comment about movies we liked, because hey! We haven't made movies either, so how do we possibly know if a movie is good or not??

Or, you know, we could just continue to critique or praise the movies we're passionate about, regardless of whether we're actually in the movie business or not. That seems to make a bit more sense, doesn't it?

You can critique a movie but going through it a nitpicking every single detail is ridiculous.

@majorkonig41, Okay then 1) If critiquing is fine, you shouldn't make silly statements like the one you ended your original comment with. That logic is unreasonable and ridiculously flawed if one puts even a tiny amount of thought into, and people need to stop saying things like that.

#2: These videos are nitpicking for fun. As I explained in my very 1st comment way up above, no one should be taking these things seriously. Do some people legitimately nitpick like the video is making fun of?
