Cool Videos: Harrison Ford's reaction to a David Blaine magic trick is sort of awesome

Nov. 21, 2013by: Paul Shirey

You know, we could go back and forth all day about conspiracy theories or the deconstruction of magic, but in the end the reactions to it are what make it, well, magic. Such is the case in this clip from the recent ABC special, David Blaine: Real or Magic, which has the famed magician pulling a pretty wicked card trick on Indiana Jones himself, Harrsion Ford. Ford's reaction is priceless and feels absolutely genuine in his bewilderment. This is further magnified by his verbal response to Blaine, which is pretty damn hilarious (and probably about how most of us would feel after such a trick). The special featured a host of stars that Blaine "worked his magic" on, including Aaron Paul, Will Smith, Robert De Niro, Kanye West, Jaimie Foxx, Katy Perry, and many more, but the Ford reaction is by far my favorite of the bunch.

What's your card?:

Harrison Ford will next be seen in ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES on December 20, 2013 and in THE EXPENDABLES 3 on August 15, 2014.

I'm surprised that when he said what he said to David, he didn't even point at him.

Good trick

You wanna know how he might have done it?
Spoilers:
It's probably a good mind trick. The orange with the card already in it was placed there by Blaine himself or maybe his assistant or the camera man. Now the only thing Blaine had to do, is to make Harrison think of that particular card through different techniques influencing the subconscious. The problem with this is that these techniques do not always work so it is still impressive that he was able to do it.

Naturally there might be a different way to do this trick but with illusion, the most obvious answer is usually the right one.

What if...he's real deal...what happens if he's the Sorcerer Supreme...using his powers...for fame and fortune...instead of defending us from the evils of the world....just saying. He could be the magician equivalent of a Lestat! He uses our own cynicism against us - the perfect cover!

Harrison's expressions were priceless. He seemed like a man who was just told his wife has died. LOL

Anyone else watch this entire special? At the end, Blaine sticks an entire ice pick through his arm in front of Ricky Gervais. Gervais looked like his head was about to explode in sheer terror.

That part was hilarious, with Gervais not sure whether to be in total awe, or pissed off that some asshole stuck an ice pick through his arm in from of him :D

Solo Hair!

That was awesome, but the real thing that slipped your eyes was Harrison's new hairstyle.
He's getting ready to play Han Solo again. Shit you not. Look and see!

I love how, before the reveal, Harrison is looking around like he thinks it's stupid. His reaction is priceless. He seems genuinely dumbfounded. Fantastic.

It might be an illusion, might be magic but..

How can you not appreciate something like this? It takes a lot effort to perfect this. It's impressive and to say Ford was faking it is silly. That's the Prestige

I think it's crazy that Harrison wears an ear ring. I also would prolly sue the place I bought the fruit. I know it's silly to discuss these tricks, but wouldn't you want to look through the deck first and see if your card is there? David Blaine is a solid entertainer, and way better than Criss Angel, but the problem with taped stuff is it's just so incredibly obvious that that card was in the orange the entire time. That everyone was in on it. The out takes on Judd Apatow's films where the

The out takes on Judd Apatow's films where the characters hate Michael Cera, or are recasting Seth Rogen, or even the "blow up" scene I think with Cera as well on Knocked-Up are more convincing.

Ah man I forgot he was in the expendables. I don't know why he'd say yes to that and no to Star Wars. Other than that this sounds cool, but who's will smith?

He's probably kind of sick of star wars. He's been reminded of it for 40 years. I can't blame him for not being interested in a new Star Wars. He probably doesn't want fans to badger him about it after the new films.

Its a neat trick. He inserts the card inside the orange at around 1:13 using his thumb when he covers it but the part I can't figure out is how he gets the card out of the 2nd deck once Harrison Ford tells him what it is.

I am not that impressed. Harrison Ford is an actor. A good actor. He is obviously in on the gag.

How can you not appreciate any time Harrison is that genuine looking. Even if he is in on the gag, he seems to be having fun with it. And that's something we, as an audience, can get behind.

Frankly, I would expect no different of a reaction from Harrison Ford. Watched it on Sunday and we were all cracking the hell up. David Blaine is one of few [link] artists I'm actually impressed by. Horrified at times, really.
