Cool Videos: Helljumpers - A live-action Halo fan film

No breaking news to report at the moment, so time for another look at an amateur filmmaker in an installment of Cool Videos. Dan Wang is a big Halo fan, and has grown tired of waiting for Hollywood to get its shit together and make a movie.

He took it upon himself to make his own film, the trailer for which you can see below. It's called Halo: Helljumpers and follows a USNC recruit who becomes an ODST. You'll know what both of those things mean if you're a Halo fan.

I've really noticed a dramatic increase in the quality of fan films in the last few years. The effects here aren't $200M blockbuster, but they're pretty damn good, and this whole thing is very well put together. See for yourself below:

Extra Tidbit: It's going to be tough for a real Halo movie to work if they really have to keep Master Chief in his suit the whole time.

I disagree with your extra tidbit. Look at V for Vendetta. We never saw Hugo Weaving's face and he still managed to be a very fleshed out and human character. Same with Darth Vader. Barring the prequels and Return of the Jedi, we never saw Vader's face and he was still the scariest man in the universe. I think it'd be a bit tough at first but once the story and action kicks into high gear, it won't matter that we never see Master Chief's face because in the end that's not really the point, is

You hit it right on the head man. If they get a charismatic actor to portray Master Chief they don't need to show his face. Then again if the studio hires a big actor they will want to show his face. Hopefully the director and actor they get will realize showing his face would be a mistake. The point you made about V is proof enough. Plus they can fill the rest of the movie up with big name actors who can show their face all they want, just not the chief.

This is fantastic looking for a fan film! Of course the acting and line delivery is atrocious but that's to be expected. These guys did an unbelievable job with their budget and resources.. bravo.

Totally agree with The Doctor. I'm really worried if they ever try and take Halo to the big screen. Directors/producers always try to make it their own and put their own "creative" ideas into the movie no matter what it is. If they do ever make a feature film they better wow me. In otherwords go big or go home.
