Cool Videos: How Jurassic Park changed the movies

No one can argue that JURASSIC PARK isn't one of the most influential movies of all time; it's a near perfect movie that in my opinion stands beside A New Hope and Raiders in terms of importance and execution. The movie helped begin a CG movement among filmmakers and is responsible (for better or worse) for the digital world we see on screen today.

Here is a cool look back at JURASSIC PARK’s groundbreaking work and the how the decision to create digital dinosaurs impacted filmmaking history. It's part of a new digital series from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. "Moments That Changed The Movies: Jurassic Park" has some great retrospective interviews with those who worked on the film.

Will they capture the magic in JURASSIC WOLRD?

To this day

still the most realistic CGI I have ever seen. I can't explain it, nothing has come close to the first on JP.

Not only that, but the movie looks like it could've been made yesterday. It looks better than some films that come out now. Possibly thanks to the animatronic/CG combo rather than just a total CG Fest.

My love for film, my passion for cinematic experiences, and my choice to study filmmaking as a solid education all stemmed from this one masterpiece. Jurassic Park was, is, and will always be truly larger than life, and one of the greatest works ever produced by anyone in Hollywood.

A landmark achievement. As a kid, I remember being absolutely enthralled with the behind the scenes material, as much as with the actual movie, and it was Jurassic Park, Star Wars and Indiana Jones that made me love movies and got me interested in the filmmaking process. I'll always be in awe of what the likes of Stan Winston, Phil Tippett, Dennis Muren, John Dykstra and the countless other wizards working behind the scenes were able to accomplish on films like Jurassic Park. It's also

It's also extremely impressive that conceptual artist Crash McCreery not only designed the dinosaurs but also performed the animatronic suit work.

Damn, how is it possible that over 20 years later Jurassic Park's CGI still among the best of the best of modern CGI? These are the kinds of filmmakers and fearless effects artists & pioneers we need more of today.

I was thinking the same thing! Those effects are pretty much flawless, which is way more than you can say for most of the CGI in movies today.

I think part of it can be attributed to how much they had to prove, that CGI was so untested that Dennis Muren and the team at ILM were very determined to make it work in order to justify the use of this new technology over the proposed go-motion puppets. It seems that filmmakers today can take CGI for granted.

The CGI is not flawless - check the raptor kitchen scene and you'll see hoy dated the movie looks - I love the movie don't me wrong but come on saying the CGI is comparable to that of todays ?? Transformers / Avatar / Planet of The Apes - let's not get too nostalgic.

Jurassic Park really was one of the most important and influential movies of all time...and not just because it was my all-time favorite movie as a kid. There's a reason the special effects still hold up today, and even look better than half the blockbusters today. Glad videos like this can show off exactly how much hard work went into this project. It was filled with heart, thrills, and it was as Spielberg as a movie can get. Flawless indeed!
