Cool Videos: Man of Steel gets the Honest Trailer treatment

Nov. 12, 2013by:

MAN OF STEEL is a divisive movie that is either loved or hated. I have not met many people who just liked it, but I am sure they are out there. For the majority though, this Honest Trailer will either really piss them off or will result in a standing ovation. The crew tackles all of the controversial aspects of the movie that reintroduced Superman to a new generation despite removing all the happiness from the story.

While I liked MAN OF STEEL quite a bit, I think this Honest Trailer hits the nail right on the head. Going back and looking at the cartoon and Christopher Reeve versions of Superman, hell even the Bryan Singer take, the character is a positive figure who stands for truth, justice, and the American Way. Despite being the 21st Century and not wanting to alienate those who don't subscribe to American ideology, Snyder has instead created the xenophobic result of our times.

But, Superman shouldn't be depressing. Sigh, I guess we will have to wait and see what happens when he and Batman fight.

One thing they didn't cover:

When Superman battled that octopus-armed robot on the direct other side of the planet, the only convenient way to get him away from Metropolis. That was rubbish.

"it's meant to go all the way in!" (That's what she said) - maybe its showing my lack of maturity but I actually laughed out loud at that part :D I cant get enough of these honest trailers

I just re-watched the trailer I posted below and read the quote below in the comments sections. Pretty much sums it up.

"I wish the movie left me with the inspirational feel of this trailer. Maybe we'll get that in the next movie. As a big Superman fan, I was happy with this movie, I just felt it needed more character depth, joy, fun, humor, a little more romance, and most of all, inspiration! A Superman movie should leave you with the determination to take on what the world throws at

Spot on...the phenomenal third trailer is the reason I went in with hopes that were astronomically high...I was so pumped up to see the movie. The movie itself was great up to the point where Clark was finding himself - Lois' investigation...the brilliant flashbacks involving Costner trying to raise Clark the right way - pretty much up their with the level set by the trailer. To me, it just seems that all that set up...all the lessons Clark had learnt...got tossed out the window the second

Very glad the honest trailer picked up on the drone Supes destroys for no reason.

Love the video; lots of truths. I think my problem, and many others, was that I was expecting a different type of film courtesy of Trailer 3...such a phenomenal trailer. [link]

Normally I like Honest Trailers, even when I enjoy the movie. I loves Man of Steel, but have always hated Superman in general. What a lame, bland, boring, goofy, caricature of what a hero is. Maybe in the 20's or 30's it was interesting. Heaven forbid someone comes along (and I'm not the biggest Zack Snyder fan) and makethe character seem real, and have to face a life that seems real for his character. I remember before this movie came out that is what everyone wanted, though you'll all deny it

Maybe if Superman didn't fallow Zod to Metropolis Zod would have destroyed the Earth? Maybe Superman was showing a REAL LIFE HUMAN EMOTION when attacking Zod in Smallville. Like when a kid gets in a fight at school for someone making fun of his mom, only SUPERMAN AND ZOD SIZED. Get over it. this movie was great, and all the internet rage in the world won't change that more people liked it than didn't!

I don't know if most people loved it, the overall rating review on RT is a 56%. Audience reviews are at 76%, but those are usually really inflated due to [link] input (Even Grown-Ups 2 has a 56% audience approval).

Regardless, I don't think the movie was garbage and I respect that some people really liked it, but I don't feel it was "real." If anything, it seemed more extravagant and unrealistic in its portrayal of violence than the original film. But, I am in the group that didn't like

With all the reboots going in the same direction, it didn't seem real or original.

Whoever does these.....

....is really brilliant. I haven't seen one yet that didn't make me laugh until my sides hurt. Would it be too much to have someone pay them to make a movie instead of continually giving money to the tards who made Meet The Spartans?

On a random side note how do they get away with using all the footage from the movies? YouTube is anal about copyright laws (unless you love copyright laws) and I assume with the release timing of these they cut up the first DVD quality rip that goes online. My only guess is the studios don't care because any promotion is better than no promotion. But it's hard to believe they havent gotten studio backlash yet.

I posted my comment then watched this, that was great! Honest trailers are a two way street, it's awesome when they pick on movies you don't like but it's hard to laugh at the ones for movies you do like without catching feelings lol.

MOS simply didn't live up to the awesome trailers. I guess maybe part of it was I really like Superman I and II, and this film was just a modern, more action-heavy update of those films, but lacking the wonder, heroics, and heart.

Fly on the wall:

How can we trick the fans into thinking we are making the movie they want but ignore 90% of the source material so it gels with the general public?

Well Marvel had success by taking some of their lesser famous hero's, giving them solo movies... That built up to 1 movie with all of them.

I wish we could do that... But all we have is batman.... And Superman, and "I think I'm God Christopher Nolan" was hard enough to lock down for 3 batman films, and now we have no idea what to do with our

That we have more hero's than batman and superman, we have flash, wonder woman... Robyn... Shazam dude, oh LOBO WE HAVE LOBO! Oh and green lantern... (awkward silence)

No, I have no idea what u just said because I'm to focused on the best idea ever.... You know that superman movie we just made?

Ya

You know how we have no idea what to do for a sequel?

I wouldn't...

We PUT BATMAN IN THE NEXT SUPERMAN MOVIE!

Why?

Why not?

God Forbid People Actually Get to Enjoy a Superman Movie

I really didn't like MoS and that was one of the most accurate criticisms of this "gritty," "realistic" and massively destructive reboot.. Superman didn't need a "gritty" reboot. He just needed a modern film series from people who understood and loved the character. But everyone wants to ape Nolan. Batman is a different character, both Nolan's and Burton's were considerably dark films.
Superman isn't a dark character, Superman is optimism personified.

Superman isn't the guy who causes thousands of deaths through a reckless (and boring) fight sequence.
He's the guy who prevents thousands of deaths and makes us feel like we could do it too.

There is about 45 minutes of a fantastic Superman movie in MOS that is unfortunately surrounded by horrible plot points and poor cgi. These honest trailers aren't very good but the Robin Hood dad line was pretty funny.

I'm going to Watch Again

This was funny but I'm received my copy of MoS today and I am going to watch it again tonight. I really liked it when I saw it in theaters but I feel like I am in such a minority that I must have been caught up in the spectacle of it all. I'm going to watch it and see if my opinion changes...I know that sometimes I can get swept up in the spectacle of a summer blockbuster and miss out on the issues it may have. So I'm going to give it another go because I am not a person that is above

Yeah, they took it easy on MoS

Honest Trailers definitely could've taken this movie to task if they really wanted to, but still funny and it made some good points. I initially liked this movie but the more I thought about it, the worse it got. Forget the destruction of Metropolis or the killing of Zod, they completely messed up the characters of this movie: Jor-el, Pa Kent, Lois Lane, and even Kal-el himself! They spent so much time overcompensating for Superman Returns and, in the process, didn't focus enough on the

As much as I enjoyed and agreed with the video

Not only was the tone of the movie utterly wrong, but there's just so so many terrible writing decisions and continuity errors that aren't even mentioned in this video. This "Honest Trailer" could actually go on for an hour or so pointing out the errors in that movie.
