Cool Videos: Pre-CGI Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is all glowsticks and face paint

How can you end your week without something nutty from Nic Cage? I mean, it should be a rule that every website provides at least one weekly dose of Cage-sanity. And, my fellow Schmoes, this should hold you for quite a while.

GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE was not very good. It was better than the first film, but not by much. As we all know, Cage is a big fan of the comic character and stated that he would actually be portraying The Rider in the sequel which I had always assumed he did in the first film.

We have all grown accustomed to seeing the goofy sensor balls and skintight outfits needed for motion capture roles, but what they had to do for GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE required a little more. As you will see in the video, there are flexible light tubes attached to Cage’s face to simulate the flames on The Rider’s head. And, to give his costars and the effects team a good layout for his skull, Cage had facepaint applied for jaw, teeth, nose, and eye sockets. On anyone else I would consider this another day on a special effects heavy film. But, when it is Nic Cage, it takes on an entirely distinct level of hilarious awesomeness. You can rest assured there will be internet memes featuring this imagery within the next 24-48 hours.

I present you with GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE deleted scenes starring Goth Rave Nic Cage.
