Cool Videos: Street Fighter - Legacy

May. 6, 2010by: George Merchan

A couple of days ago, Paul brought you guys two quick teasers for STREET FIGHTER: LEGACY, a live-action short created by actor/martial artist/filmmaker Joey Ansah (THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM) that attempts to faithfully recreate the look and feel of the classic "Street Fighter" video game.

And now below, we have the full 3-minute short, depicting what proves to be a pretty cool encounter between series icons Ryu and Ken! A far cry from the days of Miguel A. Nuez Jr. as Dee Jay, huh?

Street Fighter: Legacy has been a labour of love and passion project for its creator, Joey Ansah, who not only conceived and pitched the project, but also co-directed, co-wrote and choreographed it, alongside cameo'ing in the film. Collaborating, creative partner and long time friend Christian Howard was part of the project from day one, co-writing the script and story elements, as well as further down the line, storyboarding the film, being assistant fight choreographer and most importantly playing Ken Masters.

Streetlight repped Australian Director Owen Trevor came onboard to co-direct the film. His experience and style carried forward from shooting on 3 series of the acclaimed 'Top Gear' have really been an asset to the project and given it a strong visual flair.

Extra Tidbit: Man, I need to buy "Super Street Fighter IV" toot sweet!

Oh and......

Ken for real (at times) looks dead on like Tom Cruise.

Holy Schnikey!

Give these guys $25 million and they could make the most successful video game adaptation ever.

This 3 minutes did something none of the other video game movies could do which is capture the essence of the games.

Yes

Thats awesome. I'm down with this. This was more entertaining and more true to the source material than all the crap fighting game adaptations that Hollywood has made (I'm looking at you Chun-Li).

I hope someone recognizes the heart in this and hooks the creators up with a real budget to get a full movie greenlighted

EXCELLENT...the blocking in live action doesn't make sense compared to the game version...in the game it's a pose that makes sense, but in this it looked like it hit him, but he just absorbed it which would make sense if that was a chi form that does that or something, other than that it was BRILLIANT for the budget at hand.

Cool for a 3-minutes short. Not necessarily so convinced it could be a full length movie. Even the short was pretty cheesey, with Ryu saying hadouken and Ken saying (I think) all you can, which I believe should be haryouken. Then again, Im probably wrong. Anyway, I 'd definately like to see more of these shorts with a developing story.

Damn it! This had such promise.
Too bad that Uwe Boll has gotten his hands on this in the editing room.
