Cool Videos: The Dark Knight legacy fan film with Red Hood and Nightwing!

09.16.2013

The conclusion of Christopher Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT trilogy may have meant to wrap things up in a neat little bow, but with the ambitious final moments of the the last film, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, opened the doors for a lot of possibility, most notably with Joseph Gordon-Levitt's John Blake/Robin. With that, some filmmaking fans have taken the reins to explore those possibilities with THE DARK KNIGHT LEGACY, a fan film series "set one year after the Dark Knight Rises, following "Robin" John Blake's heroic journey to protect the symbol of Batman from the lethal, relentless attacks of a masked vigilante known only as the Red Hood."

Check it out:

If you like what you see, you can help these guys make a full series of THE DARK KNIGHT LEGACY by donating to their Indiegogo campaign, which would give you more of the story, including the throw down between Nightwing and Red Hood with some ambitious goals in the stretch campaign. Nightwing vs. Red Hood is very good for a low-budget, independent affair. However, I have a stupid question. Won't the filmmakers encounter copyright problems if this video series becomes successful? Maybe or maybe not. DC and Marvel tolerate fan art rather well.
I would watch more of this story made in this way.

That's a very valid point you've raised. I watched the fundraising video on their indiegogo page and they're pretty adamant that nobody is making any money off of it and that all the money donated will be put into production. I'm not sure about the details but I do know that a copyright claim was made against a fan film on YouTube for using Hans Zimmer's Dark Knight music once.

For a fan-fare short film? It was great.

The Dark Wing character had Joseph Gordon Leavett's voice down perfect.

Sounds just like JGL

I kind of dug it. Pretty nicely executed. Also Nightwing really sounded like JGL.

Wow, for me this kicked The Dark Knight Rises in the balls. Everything except for Robin's haircut was pretty damn good for a fan made flick.

Fan filmmakers deserve much respect. I do like the idea of introducing characters such as The Penguin and Scarface/The Ventriloquist into the Nolanverse (I had to look up Lynx having not read the comics in which she appears), and these guys were pretty clever with keeping the action contained in pretty much one place. Stephanie Brown as a cop? Eh, I'll go along with that. Some of the acting was reasonably hammy, but I guess that's to be expected. I am grateful for now being cognisant of Chloe

I am grateful for now being cognisant of Chloe Dykstra, who is apparently the daughter of special effects maestro John Dykstra. Man is she gorgeous.
