Cool Videos: The Unfinished Films of Stanley Kubrick

It was just a few months ago that I decided to stay in my basement for the weekend and watch every Stanley Kubrick movie. We have some harsh winters here in Canada, so don’t judge me. I managed to watch everything from 1960 onward as I figured I had seen PATHS OF GLORY enough times I could just re-watch it my head later. After all was said and done, like a lot of us do when a movie is over, I went to the Internet to learn everything I could about them. I quickly fell down a rabbit hole of Kubrick's life filled with stories, great anecdotes, bitching quotes, and more importantly, his unfinished work.

Hearing about movies he abandoned, considered, or didn’t have a chance to make is a punch to the gut. Kubrick wasn't the most prolific filmmaker; he was generous with the time and attention he gave to his work though. He was obsessed with perfection and you can only admire that about the man and try not to pout like I did after that cold wintery weekend.

Now that I’ve said all that, you should watch this great 20-minute documentary, "The Unfinished Films Of Stanley Kubrick". Narrated by Malcolm McDowell, this short documentary examines the films Stanley Kubrick developed but didn't live to make. The doc features interviews given by Kubrick's longtime producer Jan Harlan, Jack Nicholson,Sydney Pollack and others.

If you have ever wondered what happened with NAPOLEON, THE ARYAN PAPERS, and A.I., you should watch this.

Possibly the greatest director of all time

I just got finished watching "Dr. Strangelove" for maybe the tenth time and it still hasn't lost any of its magic. Check it out on Netflix if you haven't seen it already.

One of the funniest movies ever made. Which is saying something about a doomsday/nuclear bomb movie. Strangelove and Lolita were both extremely funny. Shame he never made an all out comedy.

Oh yeah..

I should have mentioned this in the write up; my friends mom took us to see EYES WIDE SHUT when we were far too young, like she was getting the looks from other people thinking "women you crazy". I didn't know what I was watching, there was no way I could interpret that movie. Fast forward to a few years back and this past winter, damn that might be my favorite movie of his. Its so layered and fine-tuned, its insane the detail he put into every shot, scene, and background.

Already watched this.sometimes i really get pretty upset when i think of his unfinished films.we missed those masterpieces.Napoleon and Aryan papers would be among the greatest Biopic/War films and A.I would have become a Sci-fi classic like Blade Runner. He has unique filmography. He made masterpieces in all different major genres.i think no other director has this kind of track record
