Cool Videos: The Year in Film 2011

Wow. That's all I've got to say about this year's film compilation video from pro editor and film fan Kees van Dijkhuizen.

He's come out with one every year for a while now, but this one actually sent chills up my spine. I can't pinpoint why, but it's a very emotional journey through the year of film, and is masterfully edited beyond any other such montage you'll see this year.

Overall, how have you felt this year has been for movies? I would classify it as a touch sub par, as it's hard to pick out many films that absolutely blew me away this year. What about you?

I agree pretty much with polarboy. Of the movies I saw (and I missed quite a few) only Drive and Hugo really knocked my socks off. I'll say it wasn't a BAD year for movies. And I still look forward to catching Spielberg's two. I think it was a poor year for indies, Attack the Block, and what else really wowed people?

Shame? Although not quite indie, Midnight in Paris was delightful. I've enjoyed the year thus far- am really looking forward to seeing the two Spielberg's as well.

The movies I did manage to see were generally pretty good. But I was mostly too busy to actually go see anything so this year feels sort of sparse movie wise to me.

I love this guy's work. I make it a point to watch his compilation every year. I'd classify 2011 as "lightheartedly fun". It was NOT a boring year, that's for sure. We had at least 2 fun films a month, and most of them (even the indy ones) weren't too heavy. X-Men: First Class was my favorite movie of the year. Everything from Thor to Fast Five, Sucker Punch to Super 8, Hanna to Rango, was highly entertaining. Harry Potter came to an epic end, and Transformers somewhat redeemed itself. All in

All in all, a great year for the casual moviegoer, and at least fun one for the film buffs.

On that note, 2012 looks fu*kin' amazing! TDKR, Avengers, and The Hobbit in the same year? Crazy awesome.

Other than ending on the PoS Melancholia, neat.
