Cool Videos: This political ad demands Brad Bird to be named the Star Wars: Episode VII director

Nov. 7, 2012by: Alex Maidy

As the names pile up on the potential directors list for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, the pleas from fans are becoming more advanced. Take this political ad for example. With the election a day behind us, we have this campaign style commercial vetting Brad Bird as the best candidate to direct the new STAR WARS sequel.

I have to say that it is a compelling argument. Bird has directed four excellent movies, one of which was live action and the other three animated. This gives him a great background working with both live actors and CGI creations. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL was a fun ride that kept the balance of violence at a level that was appropriate to the story without being gory. That is what STAR WARS needs. It needs to have that hopeful quality that George Lucas intended as well as a sharp edge that isn't overtly dark.

Bird has two projects on his plate: 1906 and 1952. Both are ambitious projects that demand a big budget. if he hopes to get either project off the ground, he will need to skip EPISODE VII. Or, he could leverage the might of producing one of the best STAR WARS movies ever and make any project he likes.

Until then, watch this video and ask yourself: Why Brad Bird?

Yes!

This would be great! Although, the video forgot to mention his involvement in the opening sequence of Toy Story 3 (which was fucking awesome).

I fear Brad Bird would add too many one-liners into Star Wars. Look at the difference between Mission Impossible 3 and 4. #3, with JJ- was much more serious in comparison to Ghost Protocol.

Bird

I love it, but it ain't gonna happen. Mr. Bird is about to embark on his own quest towards cinematic immortality with 1952, also at Disney. I'm talking a major deal in it's own right.
Disney is betting big on this original/period adventure/sci-fi spectacular... and it will probably be followed by sequels, theme park rides, and all the other shit that comes with that. And it was written by Damon Lindelof.
He's not making STAR WARS. Though it would be awesome.

I don't need no steenkeeng video . . .

to know Brad Bird is the best choice to direct a new Star Wars movie. Joe Cornish would also do a great job, but Disney and Lucasfilm would be fools not to offer it to Brad Bird.

wow

I never thought of it, I haven't even watched the video yet (will after posting this) but now that it's in my head, I simply can't think of a better choice to capture the kinetics and fun of the SW franchise in all the best ways.

What I like about Brad, is that he can make great scenarios. A lot of Star Wars is infiltrate and destroy type scenes. There are a lot of scenes in all of his films that are infiltration based. Making situations like the mom in The Incredibles getting stuck in the doors, or the projector screen scene in Ghost Protocol. While making great character development. He also brings humor, deep emotions, twists, and new visions. I would be really happy if he did this. Plus he made Brave Little Toaster

Which was the first movie to make me cry as a kid while having a woody.
