Cool Videos: Trailer For Live Action Akira Project

May. 9, 2014by:

We have a very cool live-action trailer for The Akira Project that you should definitely checkout. The project which is crowd-sourced and non-profit set out to create a live action trailer for the renowned 80's manga-turned-anime film AKIRA. As far as fan-made projects go, this one is top shelf.

While we have been waiting for a live action AKIRA movie forever, with only rumors of every male star in Hollywood attached, there has been nothing to show for it. We get DRAGONBALL: EVOLUTION and THE LAST AIRBENDER instead, that's not fair. So some fans got together, worked their asses off, and can now be proud to have this great AKIRA trailer for more fans around the world to enjoy.

What do you guys think, did they do it justice?

Bonus: Check out out this behind-the-scenes production journal on the film.

VERY well done! It would have been nice to see material from the 2nd through 6th book, but hey not complaining at all.

They definitely proved that if you want to, you can make a shot-for-shot recreation of the original animated movie as a live action film, and that it can look pretty terrific. But it begs the question: why? The original movie still exists, it looks just like this (only animated), and it's still great.

Thats as close as anyone is gonna come to a live action Akira film. I still feel that they should leave a live action version alone, but if they are going to do it, use this as the template. My main issue has always been that the ending is left to so much interpretation that to give it a definitive ending would be a cop-out, and the general movie goer just wont get it. All that being said, let Akira just be the animated masterpiece that it is. No live action needed.

Holy hell...

I wish more mainstream trailers felt as good as this one. Hard to adapt, you bet. Did it feel like they gave the material justice? Absolutely. Perhaps that's the [link] The desire to bring to fruition something because they want to, not because a bunch of suits with mouse ears are calling the shots and looking at profit margins.

Kevin!

Anyone notice Kevin from Supernatural? Anyway I thought it was very well done and ambitious. However like said below it did make me realize how hard it would be to turn this into a movie.

Well done

Great job but This just reminds me how hard it would be for anyone to attempt to do this as a live-action movie.
Like Ghostbusters 3 and Indy 5 this is a movie my heart would love to see but my brain knows it would be best to just let them be.

It's not perfect, but

Hell - as far as fan-made amateur stuff goes, it's pretty tight. These guys aren't professional actors (or at least not successful ones) - why would they be?

I am looking at the glass half-full, and take away that at least somebody out there wants a live-action that clearly loves the source material. If the adaptation has to happen, I can only hope the real producers and director share that love.

I will say I was only slightly disappointed not to hear the "Duhn! Duhn! Hee-Hawh!

Oh boy...

These guys get so much right... but sadly also miss the mark. This material is REALLY hard to adapt to live action and I think their visual effects team should really be proud of capturing the look and feel so well but sweet jesus this would've worked so much better if they had kept it dialogue free. The acting is pretty weak and these characters under no circumstances should be speaking english... IDK The Akira story is truly one of those stories that just CAN NOT be taken out of it's japanese

Meh, I'm being a stickler. These guys took a great stab at it and it's sad that this will probably be A LOT better than any attempt that Hollywood would make. Keep up the passion fellas, some general improvement may bring this project into some really cool territory.
