Copper alum Jim Watson joins FX’s The Strain

FX's upcoming series "The Strain" has already proven to have a stellar cast line-up, with Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin, Kevin Durand, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Robert Maillet, Jack Kesy, Ben Hyland, Miguel Gomezand, Natalie Brown, David Bradley (replacing the previously announced John Hurt) and, most recently, Regina King onboard, and now Deadline is reporting that "Copper" alum Jim Watson has signed on for the horror series from Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan and Carlton Cuse.

The Strain is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Watson will recur as the younger version of Abraham (the recently recast David Bradley) on the drama about a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient strain of vampirism. After being driven by the Nazis from his home village, young Abraham is caught and sent to a concentration camp, only to learn there is a greater evil in the world that he resolves to fight.

"The Strain" is expected to hit FX in July 2014.
