Coraline trailer

Nov. 20, 2008by:

I think it's pretty fair to say that we here, especially our namesake JoBlo himself, are big fans of NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. So a new stop-motion feature, CORALINE, from director Henry Selick naturally has our interest piqued. Add to that it's based on a story by Neil Gaiman and will be presented in 3-D, well that sounds pretty damn cool (all but confirmed by the recent sneak peek at footage which our own Eric Walkuski called the film "truly one-of-a-kind" and gave it a "major recommendation"). The new trailer for the film is online today (and with TWILIGHT this weekend) and you can check it out below or head to Yahoo! Movies to see it in HD.

Extra Tidbit: The film cost between $50 and $70 million to produce.

while i love the fact that they are making this movie, and i also dug the trailer, i dont think the trailer did it justice. i didnt get that creepy and scary feeling that should have accompanied some of the clips. i mean, if they want to make it seem a little more cheery than it has to be just to get more people in to see it, fine. but as with Nightmare Before Christmas, there has to be a darker element and atmosphere in the finished product ... and i believe that it will deliver.

I like the look - I like the story.

Awwwww. This doesn't look as inspired as either 'NIghtmare Before Christmas' or Neil Gaiman's young adult novel. It looks, rather, like a film that is stylistically lavish yet hollow and traditional like many recent animated offerings. When will they stop doing poor adaptations of Gaiman's books and start doing more original screenplays by him. 'MirrorMask' was more like Coraline than the film itself will ever be.
