Could Paul Walker's character return for more Fast & Furious?

09.16.2016

Paul Walker Fast & Furious

While on break from the filming of FURIOUS 7, Paul Walker tragically died in a car accident. The project went on hiatus while they figured out what to do about the remainder of the film and ultimately it was decided that production would resume and keep the sequences Walker had already completed. Paul Walker's brothers, Caleb and Cody, stepped in help finish their brother's scenes and, with some CG assistance, the character of Brian O'Conner was given a surprisingly tender send-off.

As this is Hollywood we're talking about, they're not about to let a little thing like death stand in the way of a deceased actor returning to the big-screen. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Caleb and Cody revealed that it's possible that Brian O'Conner could return in a future FAST & FURIOUS flick.

"I had a phone call with Vin for about an hour and we really discussed this a while back. He wanted [our] blessing," Caleb said, adding that Diesel asked if and when they thought it "would be acceptable to maybe bring Paul's character back… to really kind of let his fans know he's still out there."

Cody Walker added that "Universal wants to make sure to be respectful of Paul and his image too, and his family." The main franchise is set to conclude with the tenth FAST & FURIOUS film in 2021 and there must be a temptation to check in with Brian O'Conner once more before the whole saga wraps up. I can't imagine that Vin Diesel and company would handle the potential return of Paul Walker's character disrespectfully, but given the lovely way they wrapped up his arc in FURIOUS 7, I'd hope that they wouldn't ruin that moment by pointlessly bringing him back. The next film in the franchihse, FAST 8, is set for a April 14, 2017 release.

Would you like to see Brian O'Conner return once more?

Well, I have ambivalent feelings about this.
I would be ok with a cameo at the end of the decalogy (before the inevitable reboot), explaining what he's been doing during the last trilogy of F&F films, and paying homage to his character (and his new family life after F7)...
You know, just a 'we haven't forgotten you, my friend' kind of message.

I've said this before but a man that has jumped off a moving car jumping off a cliff, enters a jail as a prisoner that has people he's put away, destroyed his police career twice for his bromance would never quit on "the family"...no matter what. To write his character off flies in the face off everything the character is. Still, I get it, the actor died and before the movie finished and it didn't seem right to continue the character (hasn't stopped others doing it without a single whimper).

The character then got a fitting send off. So whilst I wasnt for the character being written out like this it has been done now so let it go, I guess.

Too far

Fair enough for the movie he died making but to resorect him for future films is a bit much. Will Paul Walker be the next He-Man or maybe Captain America if they reboot the Avengers in 30 years time?

Honestly, from a story standpoint this series probably should have ended after part 7. It seems they want to keep making them just for the money, but I have a hard time thinking about what else they can do with this series at this point.

fuck this....

I'm not at all a fan of this series... but he died. The filmmakers worked to give his character an ending that not only satisfied the story but the fans. Bringing him back in any way is a disservice. Maybe next they will bring back Anton Yelchin for Star Trek sequel.

nope!

Unless they recast the Brian character, they shouldn't even think about, its just wrong let the man R.I.P. Sure, his bros probably need the money but this isn't the way to go.

I guess the conversation was more about how they are going to make another three movies without Paul. Fast 8 is going to have to explain why Brian is not joining the rest of the characters when they meet up and to then not mention him through the the remaining films wouldn't really make sense being that he was such an integral part of the franchise. I can see there being a scene at the end of Fast 10 where we meet up with Brian again so that the "family" is reunited. Perhaps this is where they

If he were to return it would be cash grab at its finest. They perfectly ended his story in Fast Seven. As bad as if hurts for the cast not to have Walker around anymore, they should let his storyline be honored they way they ended it.

I'm curious to know how fast 7 would have been different had Paul not died. I know it had to be drastically different from how it ended up. They were filming it when he died, so the original script must be vastly different. Guaranteed he would have been in the rest of the films. Was the fast 8 script written before he died? Can anyone shed light on this? Anyone read the original script?

I'm neutral right now. The sendoff in 7 wrapped everything up nicely and gave fans a surprisingly tear jerking sendoff. They did it with respect and the right way. I know they brought his brothers in to help and they did it perfectly. If they show the same respect, maybe in the last F&F like 10 just a check in to see if he and the baby are fine, that would be ok in my mind. Like at the end of the series to see him with the crew one more time at a party or BBQ or something. But I do not want to

If they try to sell it like "we brought back the dead come see Walker be part of the gang again doing jobs" they can go fuck themselves.

No. Like you said, Fast 7 wrapped everything up nicely for Brian O'Connor. To bring him back, it would ruin that. I really hope they're not talking about Fast 8. Instead of bringing Brian back, they better bring in a new character.
