Director Josh Boone may have just revealed the main roster for his planned THE NEW MUTANTS movie on his Instagram account.

The rumor is that Maisie Williams of Game of Thrones fame and THE WITCH actress Anya Taylor-Joy are attached to star as (respectively) Wolfsbane/Rahne Sinclair and Magik/Illyana Rasputin, and Boone recently uploaded images of both characters, as well as Warlock, Dani Moonstar/Mirage, Sam Guthrie/Cannonball and Roberto da Costa/Sunspot. The filmmaker also shared a group photo, which you'll find below.

Although 20th Century Fox won't have a Hall H presentation at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, it's still possible that the studio will make some sort of announcement about the project at the event. The X-Men spinoff doesn't have an official release date yet, however two untitled Marvel films have been set to open on October 6, 2017 and January 12, 2018, and there's a good chance that one of them is THE NEW MUTANTS.

OK but...

FOX should simply focus on making a deal with Marvel in order to make an Avengers VS X-Men movie.

I can dig it

I just want to know who the mentor figure and villain are going to be. This is a lesser known property and I can see it being a tough sale to the general public without at least a few familiar faces. I can honestly see them having Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique leave the main series to break off and start her own team (after more or less filling Professor X's shoes in Apocalypse). Of course I'm sure that would tick off a ton of fans, but it could be smart from a financial standpoint. Personally,

Personally, if I were doing this, I'd (loosely) adapt the storyline from Giant Size X-Men #1, where Cyclops and Professor X has to organize a new team of upstart X-Men have to rescue the main team. Then ta-dah you have two different X-Men series after that. Toss is Deadpool and X-Force and Fox has their shared X-Men universe that they've wanted for so long.

Hopefully this comes across just as fresh as X-Men: First Class did when it first came out. Looking forward to seeing some new mutants in the X-Men universe.

Warlock!

If true, then hats off to Boone for getting the roster correct. If they can get a good handle on bringing Warlock to screen, he could very well steal the movie.
