Could we see the return of Nightcrawler in X-Men: Days of Future Past?

Yesterday we had a report that Bryan Singer was open to the idea of Halle Berry returning as Storm for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Who else is Singer possibly looking at to return?

The Huffington Post interviewed Bryan Singer for his upcoming JACK THE GIANT SLAYER and while the full interview won't be published until the end of February, they have released this snippet of information when Singer was asked directly if Alan Cumming would also be returning as Nightcrawler.

Will we ever see Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler again?

I don't know. We'll see. You know ... we'll see.

That sounded coy.

[Laughs] Yeah, I know. I don't want to ... sometimes you don't want to say "yes" or "no" to something that may not be a "yes" or a "no," or anything. I haven't decided yet, a few things. I'm still, you know -- there are certain aspects of the script that I'm still toying with.

As a fan of that character, that at least gives me hope.

[Laughs] OK.

So there you go. It's a solid...maybe. From the sounds of things Bryan Singer is still trying to work out some kinks on how X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is going to play out. Alan Cumming has said recently that he's game to come back as the fan-favorite mutant so there's that as well. If you've read the comics though you know that there's a connection between Nightcrawler and Azazel from X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, although with as many characters being juggled on screen there may not be enough time to explore that relationship.

One of the reasons why people generally list X2 as their favorite X-Men movie is because of Cumming's portrayl of Nightcrawler and in particular his epic attack on the White House. And while the criticism that X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST having too many characters may be warranted, one mutant I am definitely down with returning is Nightcrawler.

If he comes back my anticipation of this goes from being big to massive. Let's hope the makers come to their senses on this one.

I want Rihanna

to play a young Storm because I could believe her as a young Halle Berry, only hotter.
I would also like to see Singer creatively use outtakes from the first three movies to establish how continuity changes after the threat that created the Sentinels is removed.

It's not that Singer is a bad director, but I was finally happy to see what Vaughn did with First Class, being the first X-Men movie I really really liked. I thought the franchise was reborn and redeemed. Problem with Singer is sometimes he's arrogant with his decisions and has a limited vision. I mean, many things were good intentions in Superman Returns (a film I do not hate), but a lot didn't worked to keep the franchise alive (Superman's son, Kate Bosworth, Superman horrible costume),

I don't know if I'm alone here, but mixing the old cast with the new one, doesn't sound so great to me. I never loved many of Singer's casting choices for his X-Men movies. Jack, the Giant Killer already looks like a dumb effort to me in the trailers, and I fear Fox may regret the decision to needlessly turn this franchise back on its steps. Hope Singer proves me wrong.

Bryan Singer will fucked this movie up so bad, Fox will sell all the properties back to Marvel>>>Disney. Superman Returns is a piece of shit. X3 is just a cut above Batman and Robin.

I agree. Singer totally fucked up the xmen series and he destroyed superman. He should stay far away from all superhero stuff and focus on usual suspects 2 or something that doesnt involve super powers. To date, the worst marvel movies are singer's xmen. lets see, stryker and magneto were the only villains in 5 mutant films!!!!!!!!!!! I didnt collect a lot of xmen titles, but i sure as shit know there is more villains than those two.

It seems to me...that given what Marvel have done with their characters...creating movies that are all interrelated ...culminating in the Avengers...and now...moving on..on the verge of becoming something bigger...Fox have finally realised that in X-Men...they should have done the same thing...especially as their movies came first. They messed up with X-Men 3 (though I enjoyed the movie) and things got worse in the Wolverine movie (loved the starting intro of that movie - up there with the start of X-Men 2's beginning in terms of epicness). In First Class, they've been given a second shot (or perhaps third shot since Wolverine was supposed to be the first of a new franchise of movies focusing on individual characters from the X-Men universe) and creating a series of movies that depicts a world where mutants exist. Not wanting them to waste what they’ve already done, I for one am very happy they’re now incorporating the characters from the original movies in to the First Class franchise. Whilst Fox have totally f**ked up the timeline/continuity of this world...throw in time travel and alternate realities and a lot of it can be explained away.

Personally, I always thought X-Men should have been set in its own world...away from the rest of the Marvel superheroes because why would humans have an issue with mutants...but not other super powered people? With that in mind, I’m totally fine with Fox having control of these characters so long as they handle it right. First Class was a decent start and in The Wolverine it seems like they're definitely on the right track.

i thought I had read that Cumming didn't return in X-men 3 because he hated putting the makeup on. Why would he come back for Days of future past if he didn't want to come back for x-men 3?

Because his role in X2 was going to be nothing more than a glorified cameo, certainly not enough screen time to warrant the ridiculous hour in make-up.

Singer must be really tweaking the script on the future apocalypse scenes and definitely which characters would fit. If we get more hints that Mystique and Azazel have a love interest, Nightcrawler would fit perfectly in the future scenes as their son.

Alan Cumming put in a brilliant performance in X2, his physicality and the way he was able to make viewers sympathise with him without saying very much was just good acting. The design of the character was pulled off seamlessly, and the "bamf" effects looked amazing too. I was disappointed that he didn't return in the third film.

I'd be delighted to see Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler again. He was my favorite mutant in X2 by far. He did an AWESOME job with the character. I was bummed that he was simply absent from X3, which was just a hot mess of a movie anyway.

I dont mind nightcrawler coming back but as much as I hate X-Men 3 I would really love to see Kesey Grammer back as beast because he was hands down the best part of that movie and probally one of my favorite on screen X-Men characters out of all the movies.

Part of me wishes they weren't trying to tie this in with the previous movies at all. The X-Men movie franchise was on it's ass after X3 and Wolverine, then First Class came along and changed it up and it was excellent. I'm not totally opposed to Singer coming back on board, but dragging back cast members from the movies before it just seems like a massive step backwards. What with the alternate timeline vibe I guess there's clever ways you can implement the previous actors, but they genuinely

Still, a least we should get some sentinels.

I may have to agree with you. Though NC was the best thing in the entire singer series. First Class was obviously the best of the Xmen films, and Singer really has no vision IMO. I mean he had 2 films and introduced nothing amazing - there was no spectacle to his films at all. And Cyclops, the leader of the Xmen was just forgotten.

It would be fantastic if he returned for this film. He was easily the best part about X Men 2 and was one of the best actors in the trilogy who really nailed and brought depth to their character.

I agree that Nightcrawler would be awesome to see again in action. He was good in X2, wish he was used more during the third act of the film.

Nightcrawler was easily at least the best x-men on the whole trilogy. Jackman's Wolverine is overrated to me. Its curious how a character that only appeared on one movie made a more memorable role than Wolverine in four movies
