Crank co-director Brian Taylor will write and direct a Twisted Metal movie
According to Deadline, Brian Taylor has cut a preemptive 7-figure deal to write and direct a live-action adaptation of the popular video game series, marking his first solo directorial feature. This news conveniently coincides with the newly released PlayStation 3 version of the game.
As for the film, the story will follow "an underground event that pits a number of combatants in a fight to the death. They are outfitted in armored weaponized cars that are pimped out with heavy weaponry that includes missiles and machine guns. Some drop mines or launch electrical charges. The proprietor of the race is Calypso, a string-puller dedicating to examining the human condition, such as what makes a peaceful man violent, what terrifies a violent man and who will make a Faustian bargain in which they risk their lives. The sole survivor will get any wish granted." The game's signature character 'Sweet Tooth', a bloodthirsty clown who rolls around committing atrocities in an ice cream truck, is said to be appearing in the film.
Don't think this means that Taylor and Neveldine are splitting up. The two were just talking about bringing CRANK into the third dimension, as well as possibly making another GHOST RIDER (though if the early word I've been hearing is correct, no one's going to be making another GHOST RIDER movie for a long time...).
