Cruise in for Coppola

Francis Ford Coppola’s first movie since 1997’s THE RAINMAKER, YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH was shot last winter, and is set in pre-World War 2 Europe, revolving around an old professor who is suddenly struck by lightning and as a result finding himself younger and more intelligent. He then goes on to explore the mysteries of life and language.

Coppola screened the movie recently, and while reaction was mixed, it now appears that United Artists (led by Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner) have already entered into talks to acquire the film.

The film stars Tim Roth (PULP FICTION) as the professor and is adapted, produced and directed by Coppola, from the 1976 novel by religious historian Mircea Eliade. It is unclear as to whether or not the professor uses his newfound youth to hold up diners with his partner, Honey Bunny.
