Cruise/Raimi to Team?

It seems as though every major actor in Hollywood has tried to latch on to the comic book craze that has swept through tinseltown like wildfire. One major playa however, has avoided the mighty trend...untill now.

In what could be another bold attempt to revive his once staggering career, Tom Cruise is reportedly in talks with one Sam Raimi to bring the DC Comics/Wildstorm comic "Sleeper" to the big screen, with Cruise set to star. Written by Ed Brubaker, the series centers on an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain and allows him to pass it on to others through skin contact. He is placed undercover in a villainous organization by an intelligence agency and falls for a member of the group. Appraently Warner Bros. is interested in establishing this as a legitimate franchise , which when you think about it makes perfect sense. Sam Raimi obviously knows comic book adaptations, and with all the crap he's taken in the press over the last few years coupled with his unflinching resolve, Mr. Cruise is clearly impervious to pain. Perfect fit if you ask me.
Extra Tidbit: I still haven't seen TROPIC THUNDER. Is Cruise's performance everything it's cracked up to be?

I don't know anything about the comic, but unless the main character is either an ass, or at least slimily self-involved, Tom Cruise won't work. I'm not talking about his private life, I'm talking about every one of his performances.

COOL!

This looks like a good starring vehicle for the Zenu loving couch jumper!!!

He was hilarious in Tropic Thunder! I'd like to see him do more "R" rated comedies. Maybe a Judd Apatow film?

Cruise hasn't intentionally steered clear of comic based maaterial. He was actually attached to star in Iron Man back when Nick Cassavettes was set to direct he was in talks with Snyder to play Ozymandias in Watchmen. Personally I always would've liked to see Cruise as Hal Jordan (aka Green Lantern),

On a side note, I think people have overexaggerated Cruise's fall from grace, I mean since the whole Operah incident he's had what, one film underperform? I mean War of the Worlds sure didn't

I mean War of the Worlds sure didn't suffer any. Sure he might not be the absolute highest paid actor in Hollywood anymore, but he's probably still in the top five. I guess my point is that we shouldn't all be surprised when he has his next big hit, its not like he ever fell clear off the A-List.

HIgh Hopes

Great comic - great director and a great actor! Could be a better series than Spider-Man!

Cruise Rising?

I agree oilahize, but it was still fun. Maybe they should have skipped the closing dance number in the credits.

But it's clear Tom Cruise is on the rise again. Valkyrie looks great, and it getting pushed back to Christmas on strong reviews is a good sign.

And before I shut-up, I do remember a time when we all wanted Cruise in Iron Man. I think he can carry a super-hero film like this.
