Curses & bullets flow in the red-band trailer for The Hitman's Bodyguard

04.12.2017

Ryan Reynolds The Hitman's Bodyguard Samuel L. Jackson

If you've been anxiously awaiting an action-comedy in which Ryan Reynolds plays Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson plays Samuel L. Jackson, then look no further than THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD. The Patrick Hughes (THE EXPENDABLES 3) directed flick stars Reynolds as the world's top protection agent who is called upon to guard the life of one of the most notorious hitmen on the planet, who just so happens to be his mortal enemy. I smell a sitcom! Cover the ears of any children present and check out the red-band trailer for THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD below!

"I hope they kill him, I really do. This guy single-handedly ruined the word motherf**ker."

In addition to Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD also stars Gary Oldman as a "merciless Eastern European dictator" and Salma Hayek as the "equally notorious wife" of Samuel L. Jackson's character. Despite the pedigree of the cast, there's something a little...low-rent about this trailer, but I suppose there are worse ways to spend your time than watching Reynolds and Jackson yell at each other. Charisma certainly goes a long way.

The official synopsis for THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD:

The world’s top protection agent is called upon to guard the life of his mortal enemy, one of the world’s most notorious hitmen. The relentless bodyguard and manipulative assassin have been on the opposite end of the bullet for years and are thrown together for a wildly outrageous 24 hours. During their raucous and hilarious adventure from England to the Hague, they encounter high-speed car chases, outlandish boat escapades and a merciless Eastern European dictator who is out for blood.

THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD is set for an August 18, 2017 release.

Did the trailer make me laugh? Yes, so that's a win right there.

Are all the best bits in the trailer? Possibly.

On the plus side, this movie does appear to play to each actor's strengths. This is somewhere between "want to see" and "I'll wait for the reviews."

As a fan of both, I think this works. It's definitely very in-jokey ("He single-handedly ruined the word motherfucker,"), but I think the action looks good, if slap-sticky. I think Ryan Reynolds embracing his Canadian nice-guy persona, instead of trying to play tough, really works here.

Holy crap, where did this come from? Looks great! He punched Sam Jackson! Who does that? Looks very entertaining, should be between Jackson's crazy personality and Reynolds' wit and humor. We already know they can pull off the action, though Reynolds as the worlds deadliest assassin is a bit of a reach.

Samuel L. Jackson is the assassin. Ryan Reynolds is the guy assigned to protect him.

GUILTY PLEASURE!

This looks bad in a good way! If it wasn't for Deadpool this would never see the light of a theater.
When Jeff Wadlow passes on a project... I must assume it's horrible. The script was on the blacklist at some point though so there is a small glimmer of hope.

Nick Fury & Deadpool finally together

LoL! The Deadpool in a bathrobe ending gag just got a bit more funnier.

Anyways this looks like a much needed breather from all the heavy hitting stuff expected this summer.

Looks hilarious even though I was expecting the tone to be a bit more serious like Safe House. It may be low brow and/or low rent, but the banter and chemistry seems to be there between Reynolds and Jackson.

I agree with you that this looks hilarious. I don't like Reynolds in serious roles. He's best when he's just himself.
