CW developing a Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Now, I’ve made my love of RIVERDALE known loud and clear. So it’s with great pleasure that I announce that the same team behind that dark, campy, and engaging show is going to be behind a SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH reboot based on the recent comics THE CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA. Like RIVERDALE (of which Sabrina began in the original Archie comics in 1962), this will be a much darker and grittier version of the story, and far away from the goody-two shoes witch played by Melissa Joan Hart in the original series.

Anyway, here’s the official synopsis, courtesy of Variety:

The potential series would be based on the Archie Comics series “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” which reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult, and witchcraft. The series is described as being tonally in the vein of horror classics like “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Exorcist,” and will see Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit.

This all sounds pretty great@ Now, to be clear, nothing’s set in stone yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this goes to series, especially given RIVERDALE’s runaway success. Let’s just hope they can find a way to have a crossover episode between it and RIVERDALE sometime!

Meanwhile, if picked up, SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH should conjure up on the CW in 2018.
