CW developing Arrow/Flash spinoff series starring Brandon Routh & others

02.27.2015

Brandon Routh Wentworth Miller Victor Garber

Last month it was reported that The CW was eyeing an Arrow spinoff series based on Brandon Routh's Ray Palmer/The Atom, and now Deadline has learned a spinoff is indeed in the works, however it won't just focus on Routh's character.

According to the site, The CW is developing what is being described as a superhero team-up show featuring characters from both Arrow and The Flash, including The Atom, Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber). Routh, Miller and Garber will reprise their roles from The CW series, and the spinoff will also star Arrow's Caity Lotz, although it's not clear who she will be playing. And in case you're wondering, Deadline's report doesn't mention Robbie Amell's Ronnie Raymond from The Flash, but there's a good chance he'll appear on the currently untitled series as well.

In addition, the site also says the project will feature "three major DC Comics characters who have never appeared in a TV series." Sarah Schechter and Arrow creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim are attached to the spinoff as executive producers, and the series could premiere during next year's TV midseason.

Are you pumped for another live-action comic book television series, and which other DC characters would you like to see appear on The CW's Arrow/The Flash spinoff?

You know what would be better? A Justice Society of America team up series. They already have a Wildcat.

Are they going to make a spin-off for every character that appears on Arrow? I like Arrow and find Flash tolerable but that's where it ends for me. If it ain't a true Batman series, then I really don't need to see any more DC shows on tv

"Tolerate the Flash"? Wow.....I had to restrain myself from giving you a thumbs down for that one (because I agree with your comment otherwise).

The Flash is the most fun show on TV, although it bears no resemblance to the real world in any way.

Gotta say DC is doing with TV series on TV budget something to rival Marvel's MCU. The DCCU in the theaters are going to have large shoes to fill to match this. The comment from Des about them using Blisters isn't exactly true. Sure they aren't Superman and Batman but Flash, Arrow, ATOM, and Firestorm are very well known especially the first two. I think its a way of getting a Justice League (society) on the small screen and have it be like the small screen version of the Avengers. Its pretty

Its pretty crazy to think we'll have a Superhero Ensemble show on TV and have it look amazing. The ATOM suit, the Firestorm Effects, hell everything on the Flash effects wise are better than the effects in half the movies I see theaters. Looking forward to this, because as much of a geek as I am, I admit I haven't collected comics from guys like ATOM and Firestorm so a lot of the stories could be fresh to me.

Flash and Arrow aren't B-listers. I said creating a spin-off USING B-listers is a mistake. If you think your average TV watcher is going to know who FIrestorm, ATOM, or others like them are, I think you're mistaken. To be honest, I only have a vague understanding who ATOM is, and never heard of Firestorm before his appearance on The Flash, and I've been a comic book fan all my life.

Pretty sure the effects are better cause they don't have the money to overdo it

I always thought Arrow was a B list character (a poor man's Batman)...then again my only dabbling in the world of DC came via Batman and Superman....I was always Marvel man. Still, every time Arrow has been done in either animation or live action form, I think he's come across really well (still maintain he was the best thing in Smallville). B list or not, I really do enjoy what the people behind Arrow and Flash have produced so have high hopes for these new projects.

I think Green Arrow's ascendance for most people (at least it was for me) was his inclusion in the Justice League animated series. They made him a serious contributor on a regular basis, so even though I already knew who he was, I started caring more about his backstory. They did him really well in that show, although I'm not sure how close that is to the real character (and it bears no resemblance to the TV show).

But I also agree with you about Smallville. In a show that was

But I also agree with you about Smallville. In a show that was ridiculous with it's lack of comic accuracy (or even consistent character arcs from week to week), Oliver was probably the best character on the show. The problem they had was the same that Arrow has.....Ollie is just a guy who practiced a lot, so got really good. Green Arrow can't be that (and Black Canary can't be some chick who decided she needed a new hobby). He has to have some bizarre affinity for shooting that exceeds everyone else (like a super-power). If he's just a guy who practices, then he's irrelevant because any old guy who practices could beat him on any given night. That plus it's retarded for him to use a bow when a gun is faster, more accurate, and has far more shots you can carry at a time.

Sorry.....

Throwing together a bunch of B-listers isn't going to work (ask Gotham). You have to have a singular focus from the show, or it will meander (Arrow already does, which is my main complaint with the show).

I love Routh in Arrow and would like to see him in something, but he'd be better as a sometime character on someone's show, not as a lead or part of a group (unless they had crazy stupid money and did a first rate Justice League show).

Cough...Justice Society...Cough.

Also Sara's part of the League of Assassins. None of them are ever really dead, are they?

Makes senses I think...an ensemble tv series perhaps the most cost effective way to create a larger universe that can support the Arrow and Flash shows.

It might be Green Lantern, but they aleady stated that Diggle isn't John Stewart.

Was kind of hoping it would just be about Brandon Routh's Ray Palmer/ATOM.

If Victor Garber is in, Robbie Amell must be in, unless they plan to recast him even though I think him and Garber have great Chemistry together. As for the news, I have good faith in CW as Arrow and The Flash turn out to be two spectacular shows. However, Superhero Team Up show? Having new super heroes or super villains as guest stars are nice but you've got to have a core superhero team of the show. We'll see how this goes.
