Dane Dehaan thinks the script for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is "awesome"

Mar. 11, 2013by: Jesse Giroux

Dane Dehaan

I think if you combined the best parts of Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN and Marc Webb's THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN you'd have the perfect Spidey film. I think both directors did a pretty decent job with the character but there are certainly some issues with both films. Webb is currently hard at work on the sequel (and very busy on his twitter account) and I have hope that he can deliver a complete Spider-Man movie now that the origins story is out of the way.

Dane DeHaan hasn't started filming as Harry Osborn (with the recently added Chris Cooper playing his father Norman Osborn) yet but should start soon and he sat down with Collider to talk about the film. He has read the script for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 and it sounds like Dehaan is pretty impressed with it:

It’s awesome.  It really is.  It’s human and it’s deep and it’s also epic and still a huge superhero movie.  But it all makes sense and it all comes from very human elements and I think people are really going to love it.

It's not like DeHaan was going to come out and trash the script if he didn't like it, but it gives me a little bit more confidence in the film. Dane DeHaan is a fantastic young actor and if Harry Osborn does end up going to the dark side (in this movie or the inevitable sequel) I can't think of anyone better to play him.

There are a ton of new characters that are going to be populating the screen and I hope Marc Webb knows how to juggle them all without falling on his face.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is currently filming in New York with a release date set for May 2, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: I loved CHRONICLE but the end is totally a rip off of AKIRA. When Matt keeps yelling Andrew's name over and over I kept (drunkenly) yelling at the screen, "His name is f*cking Tetsuo!"

Well..what does he know?

If some veteran actor like cooper said the script was great i'd believe it, not when some rookie actor says its 'awesome'

I recently saw Lawless, and Dehaan was great in it. However, I'm going to have to wait until I see a trailer for Amazing Spiderman 2 before I get excited for it.

The only thing this sequel has going for itself is Dane DeHaan and Jaime Foxx.

I hope DeHaan and Cooper have the same great chemistry that Franco and Dafoe perfected in the original trilogy.

I would like to know what else this film has going for it since the first film. Other than what I have already posted.

a fine cast it (far better than any of tge first 3).

what do you actually like about the original 3? they are awful. you can tell yournot a big spiderman fan. raimi turned spiderman into a little whiny almost stupid luttle emo douche!! he ruined 2 goblins, venom and the sandman! his Mary Jane was just awful!!

so explain to me how someone who is clearly a massive spiderman fan like yourself () can say they are better thsn the amszing spidrman.

Tidbit : ya,the end of chronicle is ripoff of Akira and Inception is inspired from Paprika.Anime is grossly underrated.Hollywood copies a lot from Anime

The new spidey franchise seems like Twilight series of superhero genre,as it seems to be focussing more on teen romance.Dane deehan was impressive in Chronicle.btw,he reminds me of Leo dicaprio in titanic.they should have cast him as Spiderman.

I also use Dicaprio as a comparison when I describe Dane Deehan. They have similar intense faces.

You think the original trilogy is like Twilight? Are you serious? Have you seen the originals and the reboot? If anything, Amazing Spider-Man is close to being a film for the Twilight fans/generation. The Amazing Spider Man had an emo, hipster Peter Parker. See where I am going with this?

Ass.

Surely you jest? Tobey is disgustingly pathetic in the original trilogy. There isn't a single moment in any of those three movies when I'm not cringing. There are like ten combined minutes when Tobey isn't crying his eyes out.

Yeah the original Trilogy (at least the first 2-films) will be remembered in superhero history. Amazing Spider-Man will be remembered for being a reboot PERIOD...Not saying these films can get better but Honest Trailers hit the nail on the head why Amazing Spider-Man was annoying as Fuck.

A twenty minute scene in one of the three films doesn't justify a emo, hipster Peter Parker. It's not like when they first introduced him in the original he was a emo hipster. He was anything but until that scene and even then he switched back to his character since the first two films.

One of the many problems with Amazing Spider Man is that since the first minute they set up Peter Parker as this emo, quirky hipster with a skateboard.

And Filmbuff85 has a point when he says the first two

Extra Tidbit

I believe the ending was supposed to be a bit of an homage to Akira. I wouldn't call it an outright rip-off. I mean if that was the case we would have seen a giant baby-thing.

Oh its a superhero story but deep down its a human drama about human problems? Never thought that'd happen.

the first or reboot or whatever it's called really is a decent film but felt totally unnecessary & bringing back both Harry & MJ really keeps it from being fresh & its hard not to make comparisons to the original trilogy. It's not that I didn't like Amazing Spider-Man, I just can't decide if I am looking forward to this sequel, nothng has caught my eye as of yet.

I've only seen this cat in one flick and it was by far one of the best "non-comic book" super hero flicks. After seeing Chronicle, I couldn't help, but think this guy nailed Anakin Skywalker better than Hayden Christensen. And the similarities work for Harry Osborn as well. I don't know if his opinion matters much as far as the script goes, but I'm pretty confident he'll play a phenomenal Harry. Great addition to the cast.

As for Webb's first go around, I think it's safe to say that movie

As for Webb's first go around, I think it's safe to say that movie wouldn't be what it was if Raimi didn't lay the foundation. It wasn't exactly anything drastic from, let's say, Nolan's Batman Begins to Tim Burton's Batman. TAS felt like it was part of Raimi's world. Heck, even the promo pieces felt the same. Not that has to do too much with Webb.

Was Marc Webb's movie good. Absolutely, but to compare it to Raimi's, seems unfair. I agree. Splice em' together, we'd have Spidey-Film perfection. Now, if Webb can do a solid trilogy and keep the momentum going, then yes. Then we can say who reigned victorious there.
