Daniel Craig takes the lead role in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

07.26.2010

Daniel Craig has finally sealed the deal to star as Mikael Blomkvist in THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.

That deal of course comes with a possible two sequels in the series, "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest". The best-selling novels were written by Stieg Larsson.

Apparently, Craig will be juggled between three studios in order to do the film. He will start production on TATTOO in Sweden as soon as he is done with COWBOYS & ALIENS in the fall. There also had to be schedule talks with James Bond rights holders for Craig's next film with Sam Mendes. MGM is still clutching onto Bond despite the fact that it is uncertain when production on the film will start, if it does at all. (It has to!)

Craig's added a lot to his plate with "The Girl Who" series, as well as COWBOYS & ALIENS as there is already talk of a possible franchise with that as well.

The search is still on for Lisbeth Salander. We reported on the 5 actresses in the lead for the role. Deadline does add one short, brunette actress to their list: Ellen Page.

Extra Tidbit: This chick has a nice, um, dragon tattoo.

Fincher...

...has a spotless track record for me, and I believe his "adaptation" of the book could prove to be better than the Swedish film version of "Tattoo".

I have just recently read "Tattoo" and there is a lot of the story that didn't make it into the film. I know it's a large book and some things need to be cut, but there are some plot points I think are crucial to the story and I hope they make it into Fincher's version.

forget all this

all this is doing is strengthening americas language intolerance, y do we need a remake or japanese films (the ring), Spanish films (rec), german (let the right one in), swedish (girl with the dragon tattoo) all this shit sucks if you want to do something petition for theaters to carry these movies and maybe these well crafted movies wont be remade so no one wont bitch about casting.

p.s,-f*** daniel craig the bond films suck bring back sean connery and where is the i lucifer movie?!

Agree with you, although "Let the right one in" is Swedish, not German.

Many European countries use subtitles, why use subs more in the US.

Even worse though, is the use of dubbing in Germany, France, Spain etc. A contributory reason to why they are so bad at English.

Very good casting

Daniel Craig has both the look and the acting chops to bring this one off.

As for Lisbeth, if Noomi Rapace has taken herself out of the running, then either Emily Browning or Ellen Page would be my choices. They may have to work the look a bit, but they have the chops.

This sounds wonderful!

You know it's funny how everyone is complaining about the remake of "Let the Right One" yelling boooo from the start but this one gets all the glory. Strange. Both were original books with fantastic foreign film adaptations followed by American adaptations with great talent attached. I look forward to both films and expect great things.

Aside from his look, acting skills, etc., the thing I am most psyched about with this casting is his voice. I don't know why, but his voice seems to resonate with me for the role of Blomkvist.

So glad it's him and not Brad Pitt. He looks like Mikael. God, I still want Kristen Stewart for Lisbeth though. I don't really like any of the names they have mentioned for Lisbeth

I'm against remakes but this one might be in right hands.

Daniel Craig is perfect for this role.. Michael Nyqvist and Craig share some qualities and when I was watching the original I saw an eerie resemblance. Great choice.

Good choice with Craig in the lead.

These Swedish books are great. Hopefully the Hollywood films will be the same.

Not sure

This was sort of expected with the recent rumors and all. Just dont see him in the role though, but still, its too early to tell.

As usual, I'm sure Craig will be awesome. Also, isn't Craig doing a voice for Spielberg's Tintin movie, which was also suppose to be a trilogy? That's a lot of franchises for one actor. Oh well, here's hoping MGM gets their act together soon for the next Bond film.

Craig's role in Tintin is very small - sort of a cameo. It wont be a recurring role thats for sure.
