Daniel Cudmore will not play Colossus in Deadpool

02.17.2015

As the casting call expands for roles in Tim Miller's upcoming DEADPOOL widens, we have additional news on the inclusion of X-MEN character Colossus.

Colossus was played in X2: X-MEN UNITED, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST by actor Daniel Cudmore. The actor was recently asked via Twitter about his excitement regarding his role being included in DEADPOOL. He had this to say in response.

I would think if Colossus were a minor role in DEADPOOL that the producers would keep the continuity with the main X-MEN franchise and use Cudmore. But, the recasting likely means it will be a more substantial part of the story. This also raises the question as to how DEADPOOL will connect to the X-MEN movies or even if the film will address Ryan Reynolds' appearance in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. I would like to think they can have a lot of fun mocking that film.

DEADPOOL hits theaters on February 12th, 2016.

Dude is getting a raw deal, but then again he is probably used to it considering he got to play Colossus 3 times in three different movies for a grand total of probably 15 minutes screen time. It 's not like the viewing public will know any better, he was never given anything memorable to do.

I'm sure Deadpool will directly address this recasting to the audience in their very first scene together.
Deadpool: "Hey guys look it's Colossus! Who for better or worse doesn't look like Daniel Cudmore any... more."
Colossus: "Daniel Cudmore who?"
Deadpool: "EXACTLY! Now let's go shoot some bullets."

Slaps forehead

It doesn't really matter to me whether Cudmore is or isn't Colossus in this new movie. They could get someone better probably, but he wasn't bad in previous versions. More than anything, it just kinda makes no sense to me why they would do that. I'm sure Cudmore could be gotten cheaply, and the movie would be even more appealing to a lot of people who care about that continuity thing, plus if they ever did want to connect the movies in the future, they could, but no one says that they have

Sounds like easy access to free money to me.

That's too bad. Thought he did the best he could with what he was given.

I guess the character will play a bigger role this time around, so perhaps Fox wanted to recast the role with a bigger star.

that sucks

I feel bad for this guy as Fox it's really screwing with the continuity of the films. But at this point, I'm just glad they are finally going forward with movie after all this time.

These are comic books...

In comic book films, is changing actors in the films REALLY that different to changing artists in the source material?

I've never thought about it this way, but you are 100% right!

Thanks.

I feel bad for Cudmore - and its a shame (especially with DOFP doing its best to align the X-'men franchise- but I'm not really that surprised. It always seemed like Cudmore was a focus extra that they kept on - whereas there's more instances of recasting once a character becomes bigger (pyro, shadowcat, sabretooth and a new gambit in the way)- this could also mean it's not set in a time period that would fit Cudmore as the character?

I predict now they cast a wrestler in the role.

not the slightest surprised

A shame, because he had the presence for the part. But not THAT surprising from Fox, unfortunately. Let the rebooting massacre begin.

Im fine with that. We praise the last couple of xmen films, but i always felt that the characters aren't being portrayed right in favor for the same characters being in the movie over and over and over doing the same thing. I want someone who is Russian, or sounds like one. Someone who is a caring giant and a powerhouse at the same time.

Dumb move as usual Fox. While the guy's acting chops haven't been really put to the test in any of his appearances thus far, the guy has the look and presence for it. One thing I love Marvel for is their continuity, something Fox (and DC for that matter) has proven it has almost no ability to maintain. If you're doing Colossus this guy should be in it.

Marvel have changed a couple of actors including one of the main avengers and one of the more central characters of the iron man franchise.

Fox are really the only ones with this issue by linking the new trilogy of men film with the old ones.

Dc have only had man of steel and i don't think any one has been recast so their continuallity is flawless.

Well the DC continuity was more that their TV shows and movies are running different universes. Yeah I do remember Marvel changing actors but they learned that lesson 5+ years ago. Eventually everything has to change, age dictates that. Some of the original Xmen have been doing it 15 years. but this guy is fairly young and I can't see him arguing for too much money so it seems pointless here.

Bummer but kind of makes sense. I have a feeling that Fox are going to recast a lot of the main mutants who haven't had a good chance to shine yet. Gambit and now Colossus, with younger actors coming in for Cyclops, Jean and Storm.

Unfortunate

Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing him get something more to do. This pretty much shuts him out if the Xmen universe going forward and to me it also seems this won't fit into the previous Xmen continunity.

BTW.. He also appeared in X2
