Darren Aronofsky in talks with Christian Bale for Noah

Jun. 14, 2011by:

Darren Aronofsky hasn't had the easiest time selling studios on his ambitious epic based on the biblical story of Noah and his ark. Even though he's got production company New Regency on board for half the budget (currently estimated at about $130 million), finding a distributor to back the project hasn't been easy. Enter: Christian Bale.

In an effort to add some star power to his film, Aronofsky is in talks with Bale to star as Noah in his film. There's only one catch - Aronofsky doesn't have the money yet to offer him a specific salary. The best they can do at this point is formally "attach" himself to the project with an understanding that once a studio comes aboard to seal the financing, Bale's deal would be worked out.

As it stands, Paramount, Summit and Fox are the three studios most strongly considering NOAH and Fox clearly makes the most sense (they have a working relationship with both Aronofsky and New Regency), but they're also the most risk-averse of the group.

If you look at some of the art Aronofsky already has commissioned for NOAH, the character already sort of looks like Bale so that at least make sense. But the actor is in the beginning stages of a very long DARK KNIGHT RISES shoot and when he'll be available to shoot NOAH remains unclear.

Fun fact: replicas of the buckets used to scoop flood water on Noah's ark are known as Christian bails.

Ass ta ass!

Any news concerning a new Aronofsky film is incredible news, but I can't help but think what went wrong with The Wolverine. Didn't Aronofsky leave so he could deal with family issues? Yet why is he now trying to put together his most ambitious film yet? Sounds fishy to me. I think this kinda proves that he left over creative differences with Fox. My guess is that after the studio saw early footage of First Class (which I did enjoy quite a bit) they wanted to add more mutants and big battles

I'm sure this didn't sit well with Aronofsky who was more into making a more personal Wolverine movie. Oh well I guess I can always dream what an Aronofsky Wolverine would have been like.

As for Noah, I'm not crazy about the premise but I'll watch anything this man does, especially if Bale is in it.

Actually, he said he didn't want to spend a year in Japan working on The Wolverine with family concerns back home. His last two movies were made with Fox and Fox is potentially distributing this one as well. Just because he is having family issues doesn't mean he is going to stop making films; he just doesn't want to be half way around the world filming in Japan. That's understandable.

While I love the idea of Bale and Aronofsy making this movie, I just hope we don't have another incident like on The Fountain. Meaning this budget gets slashed in half and the film differs from Aronofskys original vision. Don't get me wrong, I loved The Fountain, but I can only imagine how amazing it would have been had it been what was originally conceived.

Bale looks a bit like Aronofsky

I'd love to see this happen, it sounds like Aronofsky really wants to make this movie. And since when did Bale turn down a challenge? Hope the money people get behind this...

id have rathered the Gilgamesh Epic from where Noah was adapted and also id rather they actually get the ehtnicity correct as Noah was not WHITE which is actually irritating as jews of back then are scientifically recorded as being darker in tone such as bin Laden or middle easterns today. Could be good.

There are some projects which are really aided by the fact that Christian Bale is a lunatic!

I'm vexed

I'm down for a Noah's Ark movie, and I'm not an Atheist, but how do you promote/advertise it, like The Passion which took it'self seriously, or like the complete fiction that it is?

This movie is going to have so many plot holes.

God can make it rain for 40 days straight but he needs Noah to build the ark? And how is Noah supposed to feed all these animals for 40 days and 40 nights?

Noah was asked to build the ark so that he can prove his faith in God and show himself a servant. Also, the ark is large; I think they can store enough food for the animals to last 6 weeks. I mean, how is it possible for zookeepers to keep their animals fed? Noah had his family there as well, so he had plenty of help. These aren't plot holes.

They can store food for lions for 6 weeks? The meat would go bad. Can't feed the lions other animals on the ark, that would ruin God's plan. These aren't plot holes? And how about when they get off the ark. Everything is dead from being flooded, what is everyone going to eat then?
