Darren Aronofsky IS still on Robocop?

Darren, stop playing with my heartstrings! First I hear you're bringing your surreal trippiness to ROBOCOP, then I hear you’re walking away because you're fighting with the studio, and now I’m told you’re still attached to the project? I can’t take this!

The drama last time I talked about this was that Aronofsky was likely leaving because he didn’t want to make a 3D blockbuster epic, which the studio was requesting, and it looked like the ever-popular “creative differences” were going to make the two camps split. But according to ROBOCOP screenwriter David Self (talking to STYD), the movie IS still on, and Aronofsky is on board.

"I’m still involved with it and Darren Aronofsky’s still involved with it. He’s making another movie right now (Black Swan), but we’re waiting for MGM, to sort things out since they’re a large corporation and it’s a situation where we have to be practical. We’re waiting to continue with them, we hope that that happens soon and we can get back to it soon."

As you’ll recall, MGM is in pretty dire financial straits these days, and the main problem for the film might not be Aronofsky at all, rather the studio getting its shit together to be able to fund the project. If anything, Aronofsky’s reluctance toward 3D and CGI spectacle would likely save the studio a ton of money, so maybe we’ll get to see his vision after all.

Extra Tidbit: I’m extremely impressed that “Zombie Robocop” turned up such an awesome image result.
