Darren Aronofsky practically set to direct Wolverine 2, filming planned to begin in March

“Practically” set to direct? I know, I know… I wish the trades would simply just report when the signature is actually on the damn dotted line, but so it goes.

According to Deadline, the latest on the WOLVERINE 2 front is that Darren Aronofsky’s deal to direct the Fox mutant sequel “is close enough that discussion has turned to shooting the sound stage portions of the film in New York so the filmmaker and Hugh Jackman don’t have to inconvenience their families.”

It’s also being said that a March production start date is being planned so that Aronofsky can have ample time to open BLACK SWAN and attend to any potential awards obligations that film might bring. (Remember also that SWAN is a Fox Searchlight release, so the studio will do all it can to help one property while properly getting things in line for another.) Once shooting of the New York scenes is complete, production is then expected to move to Japan to finish the bulk of the film.

Baring any unforeseen problems, it looks like this will actually happen. We’ll bring you more as it comes.
