When you think "biblical epic", you tend to envision dudes with beards. So of course, sometimes-bearded filmmaker Darren Aronofsky wants two of cinema's finest bearded thespians for his upcoming NOAH: Russell Crowe and Liam Neeson.

According to Deadline, Aronofsky wants Crowe to take on the film's title role, while Neeson will play another, unspecified part (which some are presuming to be that of the film's "villain"). No deals are officially in place yet for either actor.

NOAH is said to be getting ready for a July production start. The film comes written by GLADIATOR scribe John Logan, who rewrote the original script by Aronofsky and Ari Handel. Film will be released next summer. Now let's grow some epic beards.

I can only imagine the story he wants to tell, and which he can embellish a lot, is Noah during the years he was actually building the ark. All The Bible really says about that time is that he received much ridicule and threats while he was doing this. So in that case I guess you could have a "villian" character. But for the flood itself and the subsequent resettling of humanity there is no villian.

Um, how about Liam Neeson as "God"?

Seriously, in the story of NOAH, there really are only two characters of note...Noah and God.

Just let Neeson voice the lion as Aslan.
Make it happen.

This is so backwards. Not that this is exactly following the Bible or anything, but didn't Noah have several grown sons who each had wives? Neeson needs to be Noah and Crowe the scheming naysayer/unbeliever. Amiright?

Meh. I was way more excited at the prospect of Fassbender doing this then Crowe.
