Darren Aronofsky's Noah will be unleashed upon the world in 2014

Noah small slice

With the recent casting of Russell Crowe in the title role, Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic/re-imagining NOAH has been finally gaining the traction it so richly deserves. And now fans of the upcoming film, of which there are many on this site, have a release date to which they can hungrily look forward: March 28th, 2014.

"Since I was a kid, I have been moved and inspired by the story of Noah and his family's journey," Aronofsky said recently about the project.  "The imaginations of countless generations have sparked to this epic story of faith. It's my hope that I can present a window into Noah's passion and perseverance for the silver screen."

I have the sneaking suspicion that NOAH is going to be the unlikeliest of blockbusters.  Hopefully the box office proves this secret wish to be true, and from then on Aronofsky will at last be wholly trusted and truly allowed to do whatever he wishes.  To me Darren Aronofsky is a lot like Christopher Nolan, in that they both well deserve the materials and time to let their visions be fully realized.  It worked with INCEPTION - we'll see if the wallets of movie-goers once again reward such breadth of creative vision in a little less than two years.

Am I the only one that thinks this movies will have an underlying trippy, agnostic theme? Also where the hell is my Master and Commander sequel Mr. Crowe?!?!?!?

we need to get a huge epic Moses story next! That story in the bible screams to be made into a huge epic film! The parting of the Red Sea would be awesome on the big screen, and all the plagues!

This is going to be HUGE?

I mean like 4hr huge :) Darren doesn't fuck around with his movies and takes his time creating masterpiece. Each one of his films are brilliant pieces of cinema. Anybody who disagrees just doesn't understand the man, and doesn't understand film. PERIOD. Just watched the highly underated THE FOUNTAIN for further proof, that film is so insane, I can't even begin to go on. Sorry for the fan boy rant but it's all true.

Never thought I'd see the day where Crowe takes a role previously played by Donald Duck (Fantasia 2000). But seriously, like all Aronosfky movies I expect this to be awesome. I just wonder if this is going to be a religous film, or just a film borrowing the concept.

Do you realize that Noah will compete with Captain America 2? May the best hero win :P Perhaps, Cap will battle the Serpent Society, Ani-Men, or some other animal-based group; that'd be cool.

i'm sure this will be amazing, but

he should have just made The Wolverine, it would have been awesome, made a ton of money and then he'd never have to worry about getting funding again.

Outside of 2012 films, and the Hobbit.... this is my most anticipated movie. Darren Aronofsky never fails.

I think this movie will be amazing, however, I'm dubious about its box office potential. It seems like it will fall in a grey area in terms of its "religious" content. Aronofsky isn't making it a religious piece, but clearly its a story steeped in Christian tradition. All that considered, I feel like this will fail to please almost anyone. The hard-core religious will dislike his treatment of what they feel should be a movie all about God, and the hardcore NON-religious will have the opposite

Again, this movie will rock, I'm just worried it won't be as big a hit as it deserves.

I know. Christians do tend to embrace both testaments, though.

For me...

Aronofsky and Nolan are the only working directors always guaranteed to get me into the cinema.

This could be Russell Crowe's best role since Gladiator. He brings a certain epicness to the whole thing. And can you imagine Aronofsky's interpretation of the Ark and the waters rising and all those exotic and far-flung animals? I think we're in for a treat.

Though I'm an atheist, and Noah's existence has never been truly proven, it'll be nice seeing another fantasy type of movie by Aronofsky.

I agree as well, I cannot buy into the whole religion thing, but i'm seeing this out of pure interest from the director, i don't doubt it will be good, it just won't change my faith

I predict pre-release protests. Skiddish investors, and a box office flop. The movie will probably be awesome though.

the story of noah isn't nearly as controversial as, say, the crucifixion. plus, why would investors not be interested in a potential russell-crowe led breakout hit? it comes out about the time of easter, and we've seen before that religious themed movies are very capable of making cash. my own prediction is that this will blow Evan Almighty out of the proverbial water, both in quality and at the box office. (that movie made $100 million in US alone)
