David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are "on board" for more X-Files

The X-Files David Duchovny Gillian Anderson Chris Carter Season 12

Although 2016 has brought, and will bring, bigger and more impressive feats of entertainment, I was looking forward to Fox's revival of The X-Files almost more than anything else. It's always dangerous to let the hype surrounding a project get the better of you as more often than not, it leads to disappointment. It's probably safe to say that The X-Files revival was one of those project which didn't live up to the hype. The revival wasn't without its charm however and seeing Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) together again was almost worth the price of admission. The six-episode series was a ratings success for Fox so naturally, they're eager to return for another season.

Nothing is official yet, but TVLine reports that Fox chairman and CEO Dana Walden has confirmed that there have been "conversations" with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as well as series creator Chris Carter.

I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show. Hopefully, this time next year we will have more news.

Both Duchovny and Anderson are quite busy with their own projects, so I'd imagine that the only stumbling block at this point is trying to find a period in which they'd both be available to step back into Chris Carter's world. I wasn't quite as disappointed with the new season as others were, but even still, I can recognize that there's plenty of room for improvement, which I hope Carter and company are aware of. Alex Maidy reviewed The X-Files while it aired, and you can check those reviews out right here!

Can they put Duchovny's face on a diet before they film the next lot? He looked like a fucking bobblehead in that suit.

Chris Carter should stick to producing, not writing or directing episodes. Mulder tripping balls and dancing was cringe worthy. Let someone else take over and i'll be more than happy to tune in again.

Thought the recent revival was a hit and miss affair. Maybe a couple of good episodes out of the six.
Still, I'd happily watch more because when the show's on form it's actually pretty good stuff.
I honestly wasn't expecting them to keep the original opening titles, though - that seemed a little odd.

I don't know what they were thinking only doing 6 episodes. You can't wrap nine season and two movies in that time. It teased us with interesting writing that Chris Carter can still provide and for what, a wasted season bringing back two classic characters.

When you’re in an age where TV shows have production values, budgets and a sh*t load of epic scenes to rival some high budget movies, X Files latest season felt like a throwback to TV shows from the 90’s. I didn’t not like the latest season but had I missed it and then caught it at later date I’d have realised I wasted my eager feelings over it. Ultimately, if it wasn’t to come back, I wouldn’t worry about it.

No thanks, just Iet it die. I lost 6 hours of my life watching that new revival series hoping they will at least give us one great episode. Cannot get any worse than that as a revival really....

The new series gave us one great episode, a couple mediocre ones, and then a freaking terrible season finale. There were three locations and it felt like there was absolutely no budget at all for the finale. Those scenes with Joel McHale's character getting sicker and sicker was unintentional comedic gold. Please... Just let it die.

I enjoyed the short 6 episode season. Frankly I hope they continue the short series trend here in the USA which is so popular in the UK. The thing the Xfiles needs to realize is if you're going to a short run, you need to be focused as there is no time for go no where filler episodes. One or two felt like that. But overall I enjoyed the nostalgic romp, LOVED the Trashman episode, and look forward to some Xfiles goodies.

The UK has short seasons compared to US shows primarily because of budget issues. I always wished Red Dwarf had longer seasons (especially at its peak when every episode seemed to knock it out of the park).
