David Fincher says The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo sequel might still happen

Although it's been almost three year since David Fincher's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO hit theaters, Sony and Fincher are apparently still interested in doing a sequel. In an interview with the Swedish site Afton Bladet, the director was asked about the status of the sequel, and while he does say there is a script, he also says it is quite different compared to The Girl Who Played with Fire, the second book from Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy.

I think because it [Sony] already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script so it will result in something. The script that we now have a huge potential, I can reveal as much as it is extremely different from the book.

I'm not sure why Fincher would want to change so many things from the book for the movie, and I don't think this is a great idea since there are many who love the Stieg Larsson series. Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are also pretty busy with other projects as well (last year we learned Craig may not be involved with the sequel), so who knows when production might start if Sony decides to move forward with the film. Do you still want to see David Fincher direct a sequel his THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO?

David Fincher's next film, GONE GIRL starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike opens on October 3, 2014.
