As exciting as it is to finally get the infectiously entertaining Twin Peaks on Blu-ray, that was just the tip of the iceberg, friends. Series creators David Lynch and Mark Frost are bringing back Twin Peaks in a brand new 9-episode limited series! Both Lynch and Frost will write each episode, and Lynch himself will be directing every single one. This mini-series will take place in the present, so we'll get to catch up with everything that's been going down in the small Washington town.

Here's a tease to rev you up:

If that wasn't enough for ya, Mark Frost recently spoke with TV Line regarding the new mini-series. You can check out the whole Q&A here, but I've included some of the highlights for you below.

Regarding on this new mini-series came to be:

David and I stayed in touch and remained closed friends throughout all these years. It was about three years ago this summer we were having lunch at Musso & Frank, where we often used to go. And we were just kicking stuff around and we started getting some ideas in our heads about Twin Peaks. Suddenly, it felt like a place we wanted to visit again. And that was the kickoff.

Whether or not this mini-series is a reboot of any sort:

It is not a remake. The story continues. The seeds of where we go were planted where we’ve been.

If any of the original cast will return:

Those who want to see old faces, and those would like to see new faces, none of them will be disappointed. It’s far too early to talk specifics about people. We’re not at that stage in the process.

While I've only recently caught the Twin Peaks bug that everyone and their mother had, I was happy to see that the hype lives up to the end product. With Lynch at the helm, I knew it would be off-kilter, but I loved how wrapped up I was in the melodramatic quirkiness of it all. Despite Lynch stating that he would probably never return to the town of Peaks, I'm happy the man changed his mind, and I'm sure there's a fair share of fans who are as well!

This new Twin Peaks series in all of its 9-episode glory will hit sometime in 2016.
