David O. Russell attached to J.F.K. conspiracy pic Legacy of Secrecy, possibly with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro

May. 17, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Years ago, Leonardo DiCaprio announced his plans to adapt LEGACY OF SECRECY, a 2009 book by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann, which surmised that mob boss Carlos Marcello told FBI informant Jack van Laningham that he ordered the hit on President John F. Kennedy. DiCaprio's father, George, has been helping to develop the "passion" project with his son and it was confirmed via the real-life van Laningham's son (still with me?) that the adaptation was being written by SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK director David O. Russell with the intent to direct, presumably when he's wrapped up with the currently filming AMERICAN HUSTLE.

Van Laningham also stated that they'd met with Robert De Niro to play Marcello and it's speculated that DiCaprio would play the FBI informant (but not confirmed). The 50th Anniversary of J.F.K.'s assassination is this year and there are already a number of competing projects developing, including Tom Hanks' PARKLAND and Cate Blanchett's BLACKBIRD. So, pretty much if you're a J.F.K. conspiracy theory enthusiast prepare for celluloid heaven.

The prospects of De Niro playing a mob boss with DiCaprio as an FBI informant under the direction of David O. Russell in a political conspiracy pic sounds pretty damn good to me, but until this is all confirmed by reps don't hold your breath. But, the possibility is certainly enticing.

David O. Russell's AMERICAN HUSTLE is slated for theaters December 25, 2013. De Niro will next be seen in Luc Besson's MALEVITA, set to bow on September 20, 2013, and DiCaprio will hit the big screen again with Martin Scorsese's THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, set for November 15, 2013.

YES! We DO Need More JFK Conspiracy Pics! Just The RIGHT One's!

I've researched & extensively studied the assassination of John F. Kennedy for 18 years (holy shit! Really? Damn where the hell did my life go?). First of all, I'm NOT a crackpot conspiracy theorist (I know, I know, they ALL say that) and I don't believe the findings of the Warren Report. I still can't believe Tom Hanks is making Vincent Bugliosi's ridiculous & totally one sided book into a movie. And I honestly can't see anyone topping Oliver Stone's 1991 Kevin Costner conspiracy flick "JFK".

And I honestly can't see anyone topping Oliver Stone's 1991 Kevin Costner conspiracy flick "JFK". I will say that I am not in anyway opposed to any Kennedy assassination Conspiracy film at all so long as it sparks some interest in a younger generation to investigate the case further, and doesn't end with the conclusion that while there was a conspiracy, Lee Harvey Oswald pulled the trigger. I don't believe the mafia as a whole, is responsible for Kennedy's murder. I believe that some members were involved and in Dallas on 11-22 - 63, but ultimately ALL the evidence points towards the REAL culprits as working for the C.I.A., The F.B.I. and a small element of the Dallas Police Department. In fact much of the evidence points to the same crew used to break-into the Democratic Headquarters at the Watergate Hotel (which ultimately led to Richard Nixon's resignation from office) is the same crew used to execute Kennedy in Dallas. I just wish Hollywood could further this fact into the public consciousness as much as the mainstream media promotes to this day the bullshit "Oswald acted alone" theory. I feel sorry for Oswald's family. His daughters June & Rachel and his ex-wife Marina Oswald Porter who have had to live with nonsense daily for 50 years. Oswald IS an innocent man set up by the same government he so loyally served only to take the fall for a crime he didn't commit. And history thus far has condemned him for it. I hope this will change. Perhaps one day Oswald will be seen not just as an (admitted) admirer of president Kennedy but also as an American patriot and an American hero. Hollywood and the features they produce about this subject can be a great place to start. Just ask Oliver Stone, he put out what he called a "counter myth" for people to consider instead of the "myth" of the Warren Report and he is STILL getting a shit storm rained down on him for it. We need more filmmakers who have balls who have truth seeping from their pores and not filmmakers with money on the mind.

Leo just needs to keep working with these directors that the Academy loves so he can finally get his Oscar.

What about O. Russel's usual go to guys, Wahlberg and Cooper? If they can pull this cast off, this will be a film to keep a close eye on.

Maybe he'll take a break from his break for a movie that he has been trying to get made for awhile.

I figured the first time we saw DeNiro and DiCaprio in a film together it would be in a Scorsese film. I know they're not confirmed for this yet, but still.
