In January, we briefly mentioned the possibility of a sequel to MIDNIGHT RUN.

Well, now it's all happening.

Universal is currently developing a second installment to the 1988 comedy that starred Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. It was a really f*cking funny film. The pairing of De Niro and Grodin is one of the best. The film was about bounty hunter, Jack Walsh (De Niro) who must find mafia accountant, Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Grodin). Jack makes the FBI look like a bunch of dumbasses because it takes the bounty hunter no time to find The Duke. In order to collect his massive fee, Jack has to take Jonathan back to Los Angeles. On the way the two go from hating each other to creating a hilarious friendship.

Timothy Dowling (ROLE MODELS) will pen the script. In the sequel, Jack Walsh will come back, but with a younger comedic partner. Sadly, there is no news of Grodin coming back.

ROLE MODELS was really entertaining, so perhaps this has some sort of shot with Dowling writing. I just don't know that it needed a sequel. Maybe De Niro will double up on the f bombs for this one.

Extra Tidbit: "Jack? "What?" When do you think you we're gonna get to L.A.? "None of your fucking business!" Well, I have to go to the bathroom. "Shut the fuck up!" (I love you Charles Grodin.)

The first one was just an ok film, nothing great about it, I remember being quite disappointed by this one.

So to me, a sequel is just another bad idea.

I am curious, who in Hollywood..was pondering one day and said, "hey lets make a sequel to Midnight Run!"..I am not against a sequel, just dont understand why they are making one now.

Hopefully they will get De Niro back, and his partner is not some idiot hot shot...who doesnt really have chemistry with De Niro. That aside, I cant wait to see the sequel.

Just to spell it out:

What does the 'f-bomb' have to do with the validity of a sequel...?

Dumb shit
I agree with creamfinger. Any day the name Tracy Morgan, Ashton Kutcher, Dax Shephard, or someone equally moronic will be added to the cast.

This sounds just like the sort of turd nugget that Shia LaBeouf would be cast in.

Cannot be as bad as the. made for TV sequels
Where Shooter McGavin played Jack Walsh. However, do not mistake me, this will most likely SUCK. DeNiro has not done a good movie since Jackie Brown and Cop Land in 1997. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. I would prefer a reboot of this for the simple fact that I love the original and love DeNiro, but this will be the film that ends his career and turns his most patient fans on him.

Jack Walsh was a great character. Actually, this is one of those rare occasions that, since it won't happen, I can wonder what it would've been if he reteamed with Mardukas a la "Another 48 Hrs." That probably would've sucked.

But there are enough talented people out there to find a decent stand-in for Grodin. Need somebody who is smart-funny, and can hold their own in dramatic...

Glad to see Deniro being a funny bad-ass bounty hunter again and I'm sure the script will be well penned by Dowling, BUT not happy about no Grodin. LOVED him in CLIFFORD opposite Martin Short, so fing funny.

A sequel is very unnecessary. The movie ended on a high note, why do we even need this? I LOVE the original. Sigh.
