Deadpool part of X-Men movie universe & possible X-Men/Fantastic 4 crossover

10.06.2014

Simon Kinberg Deadpool X-Men: Apocalypse The Fantastic Four Banner

Simon Kinberg is at it again. It seems like we can't go a week without the writer/producer talking about one of his (many) upcoming projects, and he had a few interesting things to say in a recent interview with ComicBook.

Kinberg was asked by the site if there will be a shared cinematic universe for Fox's comic book movies, and he revealed Tim Miller's DEADPOOL film will exist in the same universe as the X-Men flicks.

There’s definitely a sort of overall plan that we’ve all been talking about for the X-Men universe now, and Deadpool obviously fits into that. So yeah, I guess I would say it's part of certainly an overall timeline and thought process that goes into these films, some of which is inspired by the comics and some which is inspired by seeing what Marvel’s done with telling a larger tapestry and linking all those movies together, even as they stand independently as well. The same kind of thought is going to go into these X-Men movies at Fox.

Since Fox also owns the movie rights to Marvel's Fantastic Four, ComicBook wanted to know if there's a chance a crossover movie involving the superhero team and the X-Men will happen. Although earlier this year he said the two "live in discrete universes" it does sound like Simon Kinberg would be interested in doing a crossover film.

To be honest, I’m so focused on each of the movies right now - I’m so focused on, now we’re post, on Fantastic Four, and making that the best movie it can be. And then we’re in prep on X-Men: Apocalypse, so those are kind of full time jobs...I love the characters, I love the characters in Fan Four, and I love the new cast. Obviously I love the characters and cast of X-Men. So, hypothetically, the notion of putting them together is really intriguing, and there’s some really fun stuff that the comics have done in the past. So it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

I thought the filmmakers did an excellent job with X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, but while I'm excited for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, I'm less a little less sold on Josh Trank's THE FANTASTIC FOUR. And I do love Deadpool, but we all know what happened the last time the character appeared in an X-Men movie. Hopefully Fox won't make the same mistake twice with Deadpool, and it'll be interesting to see how they will use him if he does end up appearing in a future X-Men movie.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR opens on August 7, 2015, DEADPOOL is scheduled to be released on February 12, 2016, and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will hit theaters on May 27, 2016.

You mean the Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool reprising his role as Deadpool from X-Men Origins: Wolverine is part of the X-Men universe? Really? Ya don't say.

Since

Marvel is supposedly cancelling the Fantastic Four comic due to Fox Studios, i wonder how this will effect the movies?? Hopefully with the comics being cancelled and there being little to no promotion for these movies. THe rights will revert back to Marvel Studios.

This is probably now simply damage control...

The whole PG-13 thing really messed a lotta people up. I would at least hope they make it funny and clever, maybe have it that Deadpool was present at many of the biggest, most memorable scenes in the X-Films and we never spotted him. When we thought we saw Wolverine or Professor X save they day, it was really Wade, who got none of the credit, kinda like in Secret Invasion when Wade was actually the one who saved the world, not Norman Osborn. It would also be cool if when he breaks the third

I'd love to see a Wolverine/Deadpool movie, or at least a scene. Maybe that could tie into Wolverine 3? Somehow tying back to his Canadian roots and working with X-Force? Either that or something to do with his son.

I'm still waiting to make a verdict on FF because I want it to be good, but I see why some might be worried. Until they get established as a good film, keep them away from everyone else. And if it does bomb, please, God, don't let them drag Deadpool down with them!

Deadpool does not need to be Ryan Reynolds

I like Ryan Reynolds cause he talks fast and fits the general mold for the character, but there are plenty of other actors out there that can speak quickly, be witty, and act cocky. I don't think Reynolds should return cause it just muddles up the universe even more than it already is and it reminds me of that atrocity that they passed off as Deadpool in Origins. Ugh: no mask, all the powers combined, mouth sewn shut, shoots lasers out of his eyes.....

After DOFP, it doesn't muddle the timeline at all.

Yeah but it would suck to kick out the one guy who's been championing the Deadpool character the most and most vocal about getting it made.

...I'd just kinda prefer a "Deadpool and ...." movie, and that can be a cpl characters, but not all the xmen.
That's my problem with the Deadpool movie - I think he works best with at least one other person. It's like a buddy cop movie but without the straight laced guy to balance the humor.

I don't want to an Xmen FF movie either. Not bc of the ignorant assumption that the new one will be the worst movie ever, but I just don't think they fit so much. FF is usually a bit lighter and X is a bit darker. It's just too many characters to put in one movie. I feel the same way with xmen and avengers. Ya, throw Spidey, beast, and Wolvy in Avengers but it's too much for one film.

I would rather them develop x force and stuff like that. They could really expand the x universe,

They can introduce Cable through a Deadpool movie. They're gonna have to bring in Cable sooner or later, why not with Deadpool?

Deadpool and Wolverine sounds like a fun team up movie

F4 is what will destroy this. F4 is already going to be the biggest failure of super hero movie history. I bet they will wish they released the unreleased 90s F4 movie instead. But I am all for a second chance at combining Xmen and Deadpool. As long as they continue pretending Origins never happened.

I really enjoy the X-Men movies but they are quite muddled in their continuity. Not sure it needs to be confused further by crossing over with an FF team that is not inspiring a lot of people at the moment. I get Deadpool but just finish getting FF wrong and then be done with it. No crossover needed.

I thought it had been confirmed that the Fantastic Four film would not be part of the X-Men film universe. Anyway, this probably means a good number of X-Men Origins: Wolverine jokes in the Deadpool film.

I would love to see Deadpool make an apperance in one of the future X-Men films because I want to see him and Wolverine go at it again; but this time it would be the Deadpool from the leaked test reel footage. Or if not that, have Wolverine show up in a Deadpool film. Just seeing the two of them fight again would be worth the admission and time alone.
