Deep within the forums over at TheOneRing.net, Guillermo Del Toro recently surfaced to let everyone know that he was going to be making a disguised cameo in his own HOBBIT film.

"I had a hand on the design of the creature and I will personally sculpt the appliances that will be applied on my face and hands. I used to sculpt the creatures for NECROPIA (my FX company) and I miss it a bit.

I will have a line or two and die quickly."

But how will we recognize him without glasses and a beard? Actually, I think this kind of cameo will be a lot more fun, as guessing which heavily make-upped creature he might be will be better than say, a Shyamalan “I’m-writing-an-entire-character-for-myself” cameo.

Any way-early guesses on who or what Del Toro might show up as?

Extra Tidbit: Favorite director-in-his-own-movie cameo? Don't say Hitchcock.

Peter Jackson actually made cameos in all 3 LOTR movies. But he never had lines. His kids were also in all 3 movies. My guess for Del Toro is some random creature. Keep in mind he can't be adding anything to the trolls in the forest, we saw them in the Fellowship movie, and Jackson probably wouldn't be too hip on changing that.

I would've thought so too, except GDT has already announced that he's changing the Wargs from their hyena look back to a more standard wolf look. That makes it at least possible that PJ is "letting" him get away with more changes that'll cause inconsistency.

Probably the ballsiest cameo by the director in a movie.

If it has ANY trace of Guillermo's accent...
... we'll know right away which creature he is.

I'm thinking the Goblin King that captures Thorin, Bilbo and company, then gets killed by Gandalf. Definitely looking forward to this flick. :)

Orc guard of the cave opening...
or if he gets whacked, maybe he'll be one of the Orcs that Gollum takes down.

Tarantino's cameos are always great. I can't decide though. I can say the worst director cameo would have to be Michael Bay portraying an asshole photographer in Coyote Ugly. Wow, I mean what a hard test of his acting ability.

I'm thinking...
Del Toro is going to be the Goblin Lord who gets killed in the cave after only a couple of lines. The troll scene is too big to be called just a cameo and, as far as I can recall, the Wargs never say a single word.

Gotta check, but I thought they used a kind of rudimentary barking language that Bilbo is able to decipher wtih some difficulty?

Warg leader
I would argue that the trolls are a LONG sequence and too important to take for a cameo.

My guess is that he's the leader of the wargs that are meeting in the woods where Gandalf and co are hiding. He gets set fire to, and dies.

I can't help but think he's one of the 3 trolls that get turned to stone. A couple lines then "die" quickly.

Might not be my favorite, but it was pretty funny. Todd Phillips in Old School. I also was the only one I knew who recognized him.
