Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green have written the original screenplay, based on an idea by Fancher and Ridely Scott. The story is said to takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original. That would of course make sense considering Fords age now. The iconic actor will reprise another great role of his, Han Solo, later this year in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, you may have heard of it.

Johnson and Kosove responded to the news:

“We are honored that Harrison is joining us on this journey with Denis Villeneuve, who is a singular talent, as we experienced personally on Prisoners. Hampton and Michael, with Ridley Scott, have crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with this amazing, creative team.”

I’m happy to see Ford reprise his role and relieved that a great director like Villeneuve is on board too. The project is being taken seriously and should excite people to go back and check out the classic film if they haven’t seen it before. I was a late comer to the movie only finally seeing it a few years ago and it definitely left me wanting more.
