Denis Villeneuve would love to do a James Bond film one day

I've long sang the praises of Denis Villeneuve (PRISONERS), each of his films have been quite different but of the same exemplary quality. His latest film, SICARIO, has been receiving rave reviews (Check out our own Chris Bumbray's review right here) and one of the aspects which drew Villeneuve to the project was the chance to display his action chops. During an interview with Coming Soon, the director was asked about his preference to lean towards genre films over straight drama:

It’s strange, because I understand that each genre has its own specific rules, but for me, they are all movies. I’m just attracted to try to do different things, and I was very excited to make a movie that required more action. I was raised with James Bond. I love James Bond movies. I would love to do a James Bond movie one day. Action is very cinematic. I’m not someone that loves dialogue – I am someone that loves movement. Action, if it’s well done, can be very poetic and meaningful.

With STORY OF YOUR LIFE and the sequel to BLADE RUNNER on his plate, it's unlikely that Denis Villeneuve would be available to helm Bond's next feature, but should that opportunity arise in the future, I'd be more than thrilled to see what Villeneuve can do with James Bond.

SICARIO will open nation-wide on October 2, 2015, while Sam Mendes' SPECTRE will hit theaters on November 6, 2015.

Sound off, would you like to see Denis Villeneuve direct a Bond film?

Brilliant choice

I would love Villeneuve to do a Bond film and since he has expressed an interest, I'm sure MGM will definitely attempt to get him on board sometime in the future.

Sick-ario

Sicario proves that there should be no doubt about him being able to handle an action movie, if there ever was. Specifically, the "US-Mexico border" and the "night-vision in the desert" sequences were masterfully directed and superbly presented. As a big-time fan of 007 and of Denis Villeneuve (especially after Sicario), I would love for him to direct a Bond movie, but don't they have some sort of rule that the director has to be British?

I agree. Sicario took me by surprise.

Based off what he's done with the masterful Prisoners, and Enemy, this would be a dream come true. Would love to see what kind of story he could tell with his vision, style, craft, and technique. Especially considering how badass, intense, and draining Sicario looks.

He would be one of my dream directors to direct a Bond film next to Nolan, and Tarantino.

I think this is a great idea, I love his work. But can the franchise handle a great Bond movie that was not only beautifully directed, but logical, made complete sense and had a great narrative and emotion?

I hope this doesn't mean he will have to dumb himself down to the level of the last few Bond movies. Skyfall! I'm looking at YOU!!
