Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds at odds in Safe House trailer

Nov. 4, 2011by: Paul Tassi

It's tough to be put in a film with Denzel Washington, as all you can do is try to act as best you can and know that you'll never be anywhere close to his level of talent. Ethan Hawke did alright, so did Chris Pine. So how will Ryan Reynolds fare?

See for yourself in this first trailer for SAFE HOUSE. It has Denzel as a rogue agent brought in and placed under the supervision of Reynolds after his safe house is attached. Reynolds must move the criminal to a new secure location while being pursued by uh…well who knows. But they have automatic weapons.

It’s always nice to see Denzel in a role where he gets to kick ass. I’m not sure about Ryan Reynolds for the opposite part, but the trailer is pretty well put together and it definitely looks like a worthwhile feature.

Extra Tidbit: Am I alone in thinking that GREEN LANTERN and THOR weren't all that different in quality? I really didn't see why one was shown so much love, and the other unrelenting hate.

That was a well crafted trailer. I'll bet the plot's predictable as a mother fucker. Let's hope it's more than just explosions and bullet shells in slow-mo. I'm still washing the taste out of my mouth left by Smoking Aces.

@ extra Tidbit. your not alone i thought they were both equally solid. Theyre not great but not terrible either. anyways this trailer looks decent it has a good cast all around but it did show a bit too much. might be predictable!

Looks great. I think Denzel pulls off anti-hero or villian alot better than hero. Ryan Reynolds is one of my favorite actors and he looks great in this as well. I am really looking forward to seeing his career after Green Lantern, but hope he doesn't take too long to get the Green Lantern 2 going.

As for the tidbit, Green Lantern was a great movie. It has instantly become my favorite superhero movie of all time and wish that audiences and fans wouldn't nitpick at the tiniest things in

Brendan Gleason can just about pique my interest in any movie. Now there's someone who I'd like to see play off Washington.

With regard to the trailer, I'm interested in any Denzel vehicle where he doesn't play the obligatory hero. He's got a serious dark side to him but most of his movies don't take advantage of it.

Agree w/ the tidbit 100%. This movie looks like a great time! I love DW, especially in Man On Fire. (I love Scott Glenn in the original too)

We'll see.
Good trailer.
But we'll see if you have the balls to be R, or if you're gonna try to be psuedo bad-ass with shittily chopped action scenes to allow unaccompanied teenagers to fill the theater and then not watch your film as they disturb the fuck outta everybody else by texting and talking.

Looks like every other Denzel Washington action vehicle. The washed out imagery, the quick cutting. Yeah, it's not Tony Scott directing this time around and maybe a foreign director (i.e. not British or American) will bring something else to the oversaturated genre, but I'm basically unimpressed.

Couldn't disagree with you more here, but if you don't like that Tony Scott style of movie, I can see why you wouldn't like this trailer. I love Tony Scott movies, and DW movies.

Extra Tidbit

I agree. Although I would even throw "The First Avenger" in there as well. All three were okay at best.

Tidbit...

I think it was a question of both films handling the balance between being on Earth and the other being the mystical origin like Oda or Asgard.
Problems I had with Green Lantern:
1) Drama and character development is rushed and not entirely thought out whereas Thor nailed it spot on.
2) Tom Hiddleston was a brilliant villain as Loki and the "shit monster" or Parallax from GL was just awful. Technically you could say Peter Sarsgaard was the villain also but if they cut his character

3) They have 3600 or so Green Lanterns that could bind together to defeat Parallax since he's the gravest threat in the universe. So how many do they send to fight him? Maybe a dozen or less. Good plan!
5) Etc, etc, etc....
THOR in my opinion nailed everything extremely well and was a much harder story to sell than GREEN LANTERN was.
