Depp Going to Hell

12.03.2008

In my book, any Johnny Depp casting news is huge casting news. So consider the following huge casting news. Depp's production company Infinitum Nihil (say what?) has just acquired the rights to Nick Tosches 2002 novel "The Hand of Dante", which is being developed as a starring vehicle for Depp himself.

The book revolves around Dante's masterpiece "The Divine Comedy," and tells parallel storylines involving Dante in 14th-century Italy as he tries to complete the work, and a contemporary storyline involving Tosches, who is asked to authenticate what might be Dante's original manuscript. Depp would play Tosches, which would mark his second foray into the exploration of satanic theology, after starring in Roman Polanski's thriller THE NINTH GATE. He also starred in the film FROM HELL, which leads me to believe that maybe he's trying to tell us something. I for one, am scared.
Extra Tidbit: Depp can next be seen as The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

PrinceOfCrime, The Libertine came out in '04, and he's only done 2 Pirates films and 3 Burton films since then. I agree that the last Pirates kind of sucked, but Sweeney Todd? Corpse Bride? Those were pretty good! Give Depp some love, baby!

Depp's next

Anything with Johnny Depp is worth talking about, especially when it comes to what role he will play next, so I'll keep an eye out for this one, I'm patiently waiting to see what his portrayal of the Mad Hatter will look like.

I'm there for anything that has Depp in it. Can't wait to see what he does with The Mad Hatter and Tonto.

And I second Neon October.

Pendergast

The art of the 'on line backlashing' is something easy to ignore, because it happens to everyone and everything these days.

"Pendergast' wants Depp dead? That's great - let's pretend that Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, Benny & June, Gilbert Grape, and Fear & Loathing never happened.

Lame.

Ah, if only this twat had got run over when he went with his friend to that "Elm Street" casting decades ago... We'd have been spared his horrible movie presence today, and, even more importantly, there would have been no "Pirates of the Caribbean" - what a great world!
