Despite Fury Road delays, George Miller plans a third new Mad Max

Gotta love ambition in Hollywood. Despite the fact that MAD MAX: FURY ROAD has been delayed for over a year now, with two films set to be shot back to back, George Miller has said that he's actually working on a third film in the series.

"We started with [Fury Road], but we then started to do a second story and a third. We’ve written the script for the second and almost finished the third. We never intended to, they were part of the exploration of the characters.”

I've never quite understood the reasoning behind writing sequels way, way ahead of the initial release. Even in sequel happy Hollywood, you have to meet a threshold to qualify. Is it that big of a time saver, to have a new script for the next two movies ready to go? I bet the guys who wrote CONAN THE BARBARIAN 2 and 3 are wishing they had that time back now.

In any case, I really am looking forward to FURY ROAD, and think it would be great to have a kickass post-apocalyptic trilogy in theaters, even if it is a reboot.

Extra Tidbit: They better hurry up and shoot while Tom Hardy is still in Bane beast mode.

what's with this site's beef with the Conan remake?

for every flop like Conan, there are trilogies like Back to the Future 2 and 3 that succeed.
Even if the proposed back-to-back sequels are only plotted out, that saves valuable prep-time for the next outing... kinda like waiting for Bond 23... holy shit, Daniel Craig was HIRED because he was YOUNGER than Pierce Brosnan... he isnt getting any younger is he?

I hope this movie gets rolling soon, I wouldn't mind seeing Hardy behind the wheel of the V8 Intercepter.

I'll bet it is a significant time saver to have scripts written that far ahead of time. It allows time for rewrites and other adjustments.
I just don't know though if I'm interested in a Mad Max movie without Mel Gibson.

They better hurry while they can even still get Tom Hardy. Im sure after TDKR he'll be getting offers from everywhere.

Knowing where the story will go, gives you a blueprint to plan now. It might result in little dialogue changes here and there, maybe an extra scene that wouldn't have been filmed otherwise. Or you could just have Transformers 1 2 and 3 where they make it up as they go along.
