Details emerge about Bryan Singer's Star Trek series that never was

04.22.2011

There's been a Star Trek show on the air practically all the way back since the sixties, with a new installment surfacing every decade or so.

But since the cancellation of "Enterprise" (which I don't think too many people mourned), we've been without one, with only a rebooted film (albeit a good one) to satisfy Trek fans and the uninitiated alike.

This might not have been the case though, as new details are coming to light about a show called Star Trek: Federation that Bryan Singer and Christopher McQuarrie were thinking about putting together. This was back in 2005, and the project was killed when JJ Abrams' movie was greenlit, but a 25 page write-up of the series has some interesting info about what could have been.

This is all via Trek Movie, so for a more detailed look, head over there. But just to give you a taste, here's the proposed character list for the new series which takes place post-Picard.

• Captain Alden Montgomery: Human and the "perfect Starfleet officer" who is "The Captain America of the Federation" but who unfortunately gets killed off early on, leaving room for…

• Commander Alexander Kirk: (X-O and 3rd in command) Reinstated for the new mission Kirk is described as having a "checkered past" with an "aggressive manner" who is thrust into leading the mission after Montgomery and first officer get killed and is able to deal with it well, but is "total crap at PR aspects of job." He alone (even though he doesn’t understand it) "possesses information vital to Enterprise’s true mission."

• Lt. Cmdr. Chel Forlaan (Security Chief): A female Ektosi (a feline species) who has "cat-like" grace, temper and insight with natural hand-to-hand combat capabilities akin to Jem Hadar or Klingon. Joined Starfleet for the "fun", posesses a "mercurial nature" which initially makes her ill-suited to security chief. Biggest flaw is "intense curiosity which sometimes overpowers her." (get it? she’s a cat!)

• Lt. Cmdr. Sergei Kenyatta (Com & Political Officer): A genetically enhanced human "Alpha" from Proxima Centauri, with a perfect physique along with mental enhancements. Described as gifted in math, linguistics, technology, and diplomacy, yet struggles with personal relationships.

The 76th Distillation of Blue (aka Diz) (Chief Engineer) a member of a gaseous species from the gas giant Penumbra who use "motion suits" to interact with the rest of the "solid" universe. For the show Diz would look like "a slender male humanoid" in the suit, but he can also appear in his gasous state or even change to a solid or a liquid, but he is "not a shape shifter." Described as a fantastic engineer who is more at home with machines than with other people

. • Dr. Felicity Chen: A cybernetically enhanced physician based on (now safely evolved) Borg technology. Many medical instruments are built into her, so no need for tricorder. She can use her "nanospines" to heal injuries, but there is a personal cost to her. She still has to wrestle with her own humanity

• M.A.J.E.L.: The sentient Enterprise computer (Multitronic Architecture Junction/Interactive Energetic Library) that runs the ship and his a personality of her own, including emotions.

• Admiral Nelscott: Female Starfleet admiral who saw the threat of The Scourge and bucked the system to get the Enterprise project launched. Not on board the ship, but issuing orders from Starfleet HQ.

Would you like to see another Star Trek TV series, or has the franchise just about run its course on that medium?

Extra Tidbit: That Distillation of Blue thing sounds like that character from Hellboy.

You know, I think that I'm about ready.

Between Next Generation, Deep Space 9 and Voyager, I was a little burned out when Enterprise came along and only watched the first couple of episodes. However, with the passage of time and the great reboot of the "original" series, I believe that I could get into a new Star Trek series.

I love my Trek, and Enterprise was awesome when we got past season 1, it was really a shame it was cancelled once it got rolling! I'm patienty awaiting a new series, and I'm sure it'll happen post Trek 2 (Which I'm looking insanely forward too, c'mon Abrams, sign on already!) ..Trek never dies, lets just have it's comeback already!

I would love new Trek show, based on a new timeline, or old one, I don't care. This might have been ok. you actually get little better picture of it in here: [link]

While the idea of a cat/humanoid character sounds like bad furry slash fiction, I know that at this point they could this shit on the screen and I would eat it up and ask for more.

Definatly some good ideas, but I think the cast would've been a bit much, and the Diz character sounds like a ripoff of the hellboy 2 person. Nice touch to name the computer after rodenberry's wife, and original voice of the computer though. But I'd love to see another series that continues after voyager, not a reboot.

I would like J.J. Abrams to deliver a solid trilogy of Star Trek flicks set in his world and then after that, maybe a new series either set in that universe or something new. If we are lucky enough to get more then three out of Abrams, great! But not sure that will happen as the cast may become unaffordable with new contracts. Either way I am satisfied with what Abrams has delivered and can't wait for the next one next year.

This Sucks!

So glad that didn't happen. He was so bucking for this, look at his cameo in STNG:Nemesis. Anyways goback to where it started back on TV/Cable with a next generation after Picard and continue the tradition.

Thia would...

have sucked monkey ball...only because singer is such a fucking hack when it comes to other people's material. Naming some thing after a deadman's wife and the original captain is just cheap and transparent...as is the dude who is in a constant gaseous state, who just happens to be an amalgamation of both odo and krauss (hellboy 2). Let JJ put a team together and run with a Star Trek series, that would be better than anything that hack could come up with.
