Potential details on Vision's costume in The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Feb. 7, 2014by:

Yesterday we learned that Paul Bettany would be transitioning to the larger role of Vision in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, a decision the majority of you liked. Whether this means that Tony Stark will create Vision to combat Ultron and transplant J.A.R.V.I.S. into the robot remains to be seen (but seems logical, doesn't it?). For now, we are given more questions that need answers regarding Joss Whedon's anticipated sequel.

Comic Book Therapy claims to have some inside knowledge of what Vision will look like when THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hits. Their source claims that Paul Bettany has been traveling between filming MORTDECAI alongside Johnny Depp, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, and Gwyneth Paltrow, to Shepperton Studios in England. The source dropped this info about the costume.

It has a helmet akin to the Iron Man armor, but its designed more like a face than a smooth Stark helmet. The iconic yellow and green are present in the design, but its more metallic shades than bright comic book colors. They said it reminds them somewhat of the T-1000 from Terminator 2 but its not as shiny. The yellow metal liquid bits seem to light up. This may or may not happen since there are two designs for that section. One lights up the other doesnt. Thats the only difference. The cape is present, but they say it appears to only pop out when in flight mode. The cap sports some similar shades of yellow as the body. The neck pieces are the same yellow but they seem to shift positions from standing (for lack of a better word) to flight mode.

That sounds pretty damn cool to me. The fact that they are going for something similar to the comic book but also distinct makes me excited to also learn how Ultron will be designed for the film. I always liked the way Silver Surfer looked in the FANTASTIC FOUR sequel, so if this looks like that but improved, I am sold.

The source also claims that Whedon has been spotted there working with the actors as they film some scenes for the movie, including Jeremy Renner. We have long been unsure if Hawkeye was going to figure into the sequel but there is more confirmation.

THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON opens on May 1, 2015.

Meh

I was hoping for a more synthetic look. Just use Paul's face (colored metallic red and green obviously). As long as it's faithful and colorful.

I thought Joss said a while back that writing Hawkeye's arc in Avengers 2 was fun.

I think Vision is an awesome addition to MCU. It's a smart move in that he makes a quality supporting character that doesn't demand his own movie. They seem to have more than enough stuff in the pipeline without adding more characters that require their own film series. He's also an iconic member of The Avengers.

As Mr. Beezy pointed out below, Joss Whedon has said in several interviews that Hawkeye was going to have a very large and important part in Avengers 2. He better. It's no secret

It's no secret that Renner was pissed about the way he was used in A1. Hawkeye's an awesome character and Renner is a great actor so it would be a shame to let it go to waste.

Very large and important = going to sacrifice himself for the sake of the World/Universe.

Sounds good. In regards to Renner, hopefully he dies a brutal death. You are a movie star and lucky enough to be one of the main characters in The Avengers. Quit your bitching about your screen time. Be happy you aren't working at McDonalds.

Hawkeye has died so many times in the comics that his typical last words are "Oh no, not again."

Marvel has been great at transitioning their characters to the big screen without them being ridiculous, I would have never thought they could pull off Thor, but they did. So at this point I trust their judgement 100%. Well maybe not exactly 100%, Captain America still looks pretty ridiculous. They could have handled him a little better. But other than that, they know what they are doing.

With this many additions to the avengers, I can't help but wonder how many of the old cast are going to die.

What's been described so far makes sense. The folks in charge of the Marvel movies have managed to make Batroc the Leaper look un-silly; they can do anything.

Happy to hear that Jeremy Renner will be returning as Hawkeye. I really hope his character has more to do to this time.

Just putting it out there....

This is strictly speculation but what does Marvel have to lose killing off Tony Stark? There's been no talk from Marvel about continuing the franchise with RDJ and they have more than enough characters to toss into the mold and keep things interesting. "Marvel would never throw away a cash cow like Iron Man!" Yeah maybe. Maybe they'll be safe and just kills Hawkeye or Pepper or whoever else people have been speculating about. And since he's signed on for Avengers 3 maybe it's all for naught

And since he's signed on for Avengers 3 maybe it's all for naught but who knows at what capacity he'll be involved. It could be a cameo or flashback or something of that nature. "They would never waste a talent like RDJ on that nonsense" Yeah I know, probably not likely, but for the sake of good narrative it would be such a powerful move to kill off such an important character. It would show no one is safe and fans won't feel that every character was safe. What if Ultron/Vision set out to kill Tony Stark and succeeded? That would be bad-ass.

But this is the perfect time to get away with it guys: there's no future Iron Man movie anywhere on the horizon, and RDJ has said several times already that he'd be more than happy passing the torch. Killing Stark is certainly no obstacle to preventing future Iron Man movies either. Unlike all the other Avengers, Iron Man IS the suit. Anyone can wear it, so why not?

Anyway, killing off anyone else wouldn't make sense or be as effective. The non-powereds aren't important enough, Thor

Anyway, killing off anyone else wouldn't make sense or be as effective. The non-powereds aren't important enough, Thor makes them too much money, the Hulk hasn't had his day yet, Captain America still has a couple important plots he needs to incite, and Sam Jackson's got a big-ass multi-film contract keeping Fury alive. Iron Man did his job already - he got non-comic readers in the seats and excited about Marvel. And the third movie (which I thought was great) nicely completes Stark's story arc. What else is left for him to even do? Fight yet another Iron Monger rip-off?

they wouldn't kill off Tony Stark because he's too important of a character. how many franchises kill off a character as integral as Tony Stark? that'd be like killing off Han Solo or Spock. oh wait, you mean "kill him off" like freeze him in carbonite or kill and resurrect him? then maybe (but they already kind of did that in Avengers 1).

If George R.R. Martin was writing the sequel he would die. His last name is Stark.

This possible description of Vision's suit sounds gorgeous. Muted metallic green and yellow, similar to T-1000? Perfect. I hope the "helmet" fits around the face and we get as much of Bettany's expressions as possible, cause he's much more than a great voice. He was so cool as the sly Chaucer in A Knight's Tale.

I wonder if Marvel will tie any product placement into this character. Maybe a fight in front of a Lenscrafters?

So, they're finally debuting a superhero who wears an honest-to-god cape. I guess it was inevitable. But hey, at least they're putting it on a robot whose description sounds fantastic
